SANDERS FALLS TRACK ARBORETUM TRACK Time/Distance: 20 minutes one way, 0.37 km Time/Distance: 30 minute circuit, 2.5 km A beautiful scenic walking track with a gentle climb and some steps to take you to a viewing platform overlooking the falls. WAIMATE MUSEUM AND ARCHIVES BUSHTOWN Travel back in time and immerse yourself in Bushtown, Waimate. This replica Edwardian town features a steam sawmill, bushman's hut and miniature train, and is a tribute to the vital role sawmilling played towards the development of the Waimate District. TED'S BOTTLE A bottle of beer has remained unopened behind the bar of the Waihao Forks Hotel since World War II. The bottle was left there by Private Ted d'Auvergne when he set off for war in January 1940. He told the publican he would drink it when he got back. Unfortunately Ted was SEE & DO SEE & DO killed in action in Crete in 1941 and never made it back. The bottle remains as a unique memorial to Ted, and all the young New Zealanders who lost their lives during the war. The Waimate Museum and Archives is home to thousands of items and images telling the stories of Waimate District.
