2022 Festival of Music Program 90th Annual Grey County Kiwanis Festival of Music Message from our Festival Chair Welcome to the 2022 Grey County Kiwanis Festival of Music! In this, our 90th year, the Festival has sought to maintain the expectations of previous years while looking forward to the continued promotion of excellence in music in our region. It is with this vision that the Festival piloted a new registration process. The Music Festival Suite system provides current standards for organization, support, and security of registrations. Special thanks to Festival Coordinator, Karen Kyle, for making this transition possible. The efforts of teachers, parents and supporters are appreciated for their assistance and preparation. As always, the dedication and expertise of the Board of Directors was pivotal in guiding the work of the Festival. Many thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Owen Sound and Kiwanis Club of Meaford, Tamming Law, Markdale I.D.A. Pharmacy, Andrew Drury, and Mix 106.5 for their sponsorship. Owen Sound is known for our vibrant arts and music scene, and that all starts with engaging and encouraging artists at a young age. Peter Stoll Woodwinds & Ensembles Known for his virtuoso energy on stage as well as an easy and entertaining way of speaking with the audience, Peter Stoll teaches clarinet, chamber music, performance & education studies, and the Business of Music at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music. He is a frequent performer with orchestral and chamber ensembles in southern Ontario. Also a very popular adjudicator up to the national level, Peter is particularly known for his enthusiastic, positive comments and detailed suggestions to young musicians. Musical Theatre, Speech, Pop Voice, Voice Marnie Kersten Marnie Kersten Musical Theatre Marnie Kersten is a multi-instrumentalist as well as a Class 04400: Musical Theatre - Intermediate, 15-16 yrs - RCM/CC Musical musical theatre performer. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from Queen’s University as well as a Theatre List Diploma in Musical Theatre from the Randolph Academy. Julia Trelford Ms. Kersten runs her own thriving private voice studio, and “Over the Rainbow” by Harold Arlen, from The Wizard of Oz is on the voice faculty at Sheridan College. 2022 Festival of Music Program Wendy Potter Junior Piano Ms. Potter holds a Bachelors Degree in Piano Performance from the University of Western Ontario, and a Masters Degree in Piano Pedagogy and Performance from the University of Michigan. Academic positions held include Lecturer in Piano Pedagogy at the University of Michigan, and Co-ordinator of the All-State Program at the Interlochen Centre for the Arts. She has been recognized with several awards in both teaching and performing, including the Alice B. Kern Excellence in Teaching Award (University of Michigan), and the UWO Gold Medal. 2022 Festival of Music Program Martha Hill Duncan Senior Piano Senior Piano & Compositon Martha Hill Duncan is an award-winning composer, choral conductor and music educator living in Kingston, Ontario. Originally from Houston, Texas, her passion for music started early. Her mother sang and played the piano by ear and her father shared his appreciation of varied musical styles and instruments. She began piano lessons at age 8 and went on to receive a diploma in vocal music from first graduating class of The Houston High School for Performing and Visual Arts and later earned a degree in composition from The University of Texas at Austin.
