Once upon a time… …there was a small church with a thatched roof, built during the 12th-century It is no longer there On the site our church was built in 1862 Virke church is one of six churches in Kävlinge parish
Martin Luther is in our church One of the 500 statues made by Ottmar Hörl has found its way to Virke
The statue of Christ on the altar is a replica of Bertel Thorvaldsen’s statue that was made for Copenhagen Cathedral
Green is the right colour, and the path to go into the future! A hymn in the Swedish hymnal that we always sing in our services in Virke: “Give life to the world”: ”Tyng inte jorden, rör vid den varsamt, ge världen liv, ge den vård där du går, gåvan till alla låt den ej falla ur deras händer som framtiden sår” (Psalm 838, Psalmer i 2000-talet)
Let’s make a better churchyard—with bees and apple trees—the vicar and the chairman of the church council plants the first apple tree
And let´s build a place for meditation and services in the middle of all the apple trees The vicar and the builder looks at the plans and finds a site
Pine Cloud architects made the drawings, and soon the apple cathedral was on its way
The apple cathedral— a place for meetings • A place that gives life to bees, bumblebees, butterflies and birds • That gives life to the soul • A meeting place for people • A meeting place for you and God • Ecological, spiritual, social
The cathedral and the church You can walk the path through the cathedral

We are still waiting for our sheep
The dirty church, going green Growing moss and lichen on the walls The roof will have solar cells instead of slate, on some parts there will still be slate
The inside of the church, very much as it was in 1862

An apple— and the cathedral— and the church
Danish Solar Energy Ltd will make the solar panels, and they will be very much lookalike the slate roof Estimated yield calculation: 8.500 kWh/year
The overview roof, with the solar panels in centre and slate on the side
Where are we going from here? • We will have services, funerals, weddings and baptisms in the apple cathedral, when the weather allows it • Solar cells on the roof of the church will give power to the ecological thinking • The interior of the church will be altered later on • We will carry on with new thinking to save Gods creation • We will carry on the good work from Virke to the other churches in our parish
