Reconciliation Week Reconciliation Week is held each year from 27 May to 3 June and is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to get a better understanding of how each of us can contribute towards achieving reconciliation. The week commemorates two significant milestones in Australia’s reconciliation journey – the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision. We’ve made a commitment of reconciliation to the Traditional Custodians of the land and waterways of Moonee Valley – the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation – and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Ceremonial Rock Circle in collaboration with Islander peoples. Shape our activity centre We’ve put together a draft local plan for the Moonee Ponds Activity Centre and would love to know what you think. The plan outlines our vision for the future of the activity centre – one that is beautiful, green, easy to move around, full of life, and protects the heritage character of the area. It includes recommendations for how new developments should look, how pedestrian, and vehicle access and movements can be improved, what our public spaces should look like and where we can plan for the development of more affordable housing. The Moonee Ponds population is forecast to grow by more than 10,000 people by 2040, so we need to be prepared. By making the most of existing infrastructure and focusing growth on key activity areas in our city we can create vibrant and healthy neighbourhoods for generations to come. To see a copy of the draft local plan and have your say, visit yoursay.mvcc.vic.gov.au/MPAC before 5pm on Friday, 5 April. “Our focus is to create a vibrant future for Moonee Ponds, where our community are supported to be healthy and connected.
