Important Schedule Information for Parents and Students Letter from the Superintendent Important Calendar Dates 2022-2023 Dear Viking community, If schools are closed because of inclement weather or other reasons, and more than five days have accumulated, days will be added to meet the required number of days that Welcome to the 2022-23 school year! Leveraging 6 Schools Open last year’s successes, together we will move forward on the path of 26-27 Rosh Hashanah continuous improvement and transform this district from good to great. We are preparing for the new year with dedication and excitement. The hard work is reflected in October 5 Yom Kippur every aspect of our district, including the resurfacing of our track at Viking Stadium in July. Our 10 Columbus Day stadium truly embodies Valhalla’s heart and spirit - it is an example of excellence. Over the summer, we welcomed amazing staff members into our Valhalla family, including additions to our Leadership November 8 Superintendent’s Conference Day Team: High School Principal Kristen Sautner and Interim Athletic Director Tara Lahm. Additionally, we 11 Veterans Day augmented our district with new positions, including an Educational Technology Specialist, who will 23 K-12 Early Dismissal further integrate technology into our K-12 curriculum/instruction, and two new guidance counselors 24-25 Thanksgiving Recess to further support our students’ social and emotional needs. Supporting this year’s theme of Excellence and Enthusiasm, we are implementing new ELA and math December 1 K-5 Early Dismissal programs at the elementary level. In the spring, we will introduce our Senior Internship program, 26-30 Holiday Recess which will provide opportunities for our students to explore a career path, gain real-world experiences, build confidence and further develop the needed career readiness competencies. January 2 Holiday Recess Additionally, we have begun developing a Strategic Coherence Plan. This plan will provide a 16 Martin Luther King Jr. Day comprehensive road map to identify areas of need and will help us set appropriate goals and priorities. It will also provide opportunities to engage stakeholders, gather feedback, and build trust, February 20-24 Winter Recess confidence and hope for the future. Looking ahead, we will continue our preparation of moving our secondary schools to a block schedule.
