While the emergency shelter provides a haven for homeless individuals in our community, our goal to prevent and end homelessness starts with housing. Your gift will help Pacific House offer shelter and meals for homeless men and young adults, and help them find permanent affordable housing.
OUR MISSION: TO PREVENT AND END HOMELESSNESS Since the pandemic in 2020, we have had to pivot our spring event that created awareness and support for our Young Adult Program. Instead of our traditional in- person Food & Wine Experience, we focused on digital outreach to coincide with the National Homelessness & Health Awareness Week. Feedback from our community in 2021 was so encouraging, we want to further explore these issues, how they affect our clients, and provide you with updates about our work. Our emergency shelter provides vital support to those in critical need 24/7, 365 days a year. Our steadily expanding portfolio of deeply affordable housing offers homes to formerly homeless individuals. Pacific House has a wide range of supportive services, including healthcare, recovery, young adult, outreach, and dedicated case management. We also connect with clients through meal service, and when we are able, provide a housewarming gift to those in their new affordable homes. The community’s generosity is the beating heart of our organization. WWW.PACIFICHOUSE.ORG 05
TO VIEW OUR HOMES DEEPLY AFFORDABLE HOUSING We initially launched as a 67-bed men's shelter in Stamford close to four decades ago, but we took a more proactive than reactive approach to homelessness in 2007. We started looking at this issue through a different lens. Rather than concentrating on emergency shelters, we wanted to be more about permanent solutions. So we embarked on a new mission in the years that followed and prioritized the development of housing specifically designed to assist the homeless community. We now have 14 homes that provide housing for over 140 individuals and families. 06 WWW.PACIFICHOUSE.ORG

DID YOU KNOW The United States is home to the largest population, globally, of homeless individuals, and the homeless health awareness problem is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. Homelessness is a complex issue that has many different causes. Regardless of how a person becomes homeless, they often struggle to access healthcare since they do not have the resources to travel to a clinic or hospital nor can afford it. Moreover, many homeless people suffer from mental illness and addiction, and are not aware of resources that can help them. The sad truth is that they are less likely to receive the treatment they need, but there are things that we can do to help! With a home as a foundation, health improves, employment can be maintained, and self-sufficiency rises. Our unwavering commitment to help those whose lives have unraveled into homelessness makes all of this possible. We're improving lives, ending homelessness, saving taxpayer dollars, and making a brighter future for us all. We believe in: Housing First: We are committed to ending homelessness. We believe that housing is a human right and that everyone should have access to safe and affordable housing. Affordable Housing: We're working with communities to create more affordable housing choices for low-income or homeless people. Expanding Mental Health Services: We are committed to providing mental health services and resources so that people living with mental illness can live fulfilling lives in the community. Will you join us on our quest to prevent and end homelessness? 08 WWW.PACIFICHOUSE.ORG

COMMUNITY DIGNITARIES RECOGNIZE PACIFIC HOUSE AND ITS SERVICE TO FAIRFIELD COUNTY I can tell you from experience that Pacific House is a first-rate organization that offers its clients high-quality programs and services to help them reach their goals for independence. Their emergency shelter is clean and well run. Protocols are in place to maintain client safety and to respect the needs of the surrounding community. The blighted properties that Pacific House renovated into supportive housing are attractively built, so much so, that I wouldn't be surprised if property values in those areas rise as a result. What impresses me most about their properties is the quality of the workmanship and furnishings of each unit. After touring several of their properties, it became obvious that they do not cut corners when it comes to providing for the people they serve. Senator Patricia Billie Miller, Assembly District 27 For over 35 years, the Pacific House organization has been an important partner to the city, caring for those who have nowhere else to turn. Their work truly turns lives around so that homeless men and young adults can transform into productive and meaningful contributors to the community. The supportive housing that Pacific House owns and operates have enhanced our neighborhoods with beautiful buildings. Residents of these homes are members of the community, considerate citizens who are thankful to have a place to call home. As a neighbor, I’ve been a witness to the life-changing work Pacific House does and can attest to the excellence of this organization, and their teams! State Representative David Michel For over 35 years, the organization has responded to the needs of men and young adults who struggle with homelessness in Fairfield County. During that time, they have served over 2 million meals, provided over 850,000 bed-nights, served 350 veterans, secured housing for 6,000 people, and provided healthcare interventions for nearly 4,000 clients. Pacific House works every day to help these individuals find a better future. I am grateful for their efforts in doing this vital work and congratulate them on pursuing the next chapter in their organization’s development. Jim Himes, Member of Congress WWW.PACIFICHOUSE.ORG 11

Danbury, CT At the onset of the pandemic, the City of Danbury faced a homeless crisis when their two small shelters closed. Upon moving all of the homeless people into a hotel, the State of CT DOH, the City of Danbury, and Open Door, Fairfield County, asked Pacific House to provide guidance and leadership for the hotel. When this hotel where homeless guests were staying was put up for sale, the State of CT DOH and City of Danbury asked Pacific House to be the lead agency to purchase the hotel and run as a shelter for the City of Danbury. Thus, as of today, we have taken over the operation of the emergency shelter in Danbury. We now provide services in three communities in Fairfield County that include Stamford, Norwalk, and Danbury. In the future, this former Danbury hotel will be converted to both a shelter as well as deeply affordable housing units. We are on the right path because the most common approach to ending homelessness is to offer a range of housing options, including permanent supportive housing, rapid re-housing, transitional housing, or a combination of these approaches. WE ARE PROUD OF OUR CLIENTS We’ve helped those who once seemed lost to find hope for the future. We are proud to celebrate our clients and the progress they’ve made - and so grateful to have been a part of that journey. Former client Josiah M. was discharged from our shelter and has successfully transitioned to his own home. He is very thankful to Pacific House for assisting him throughout this transition and into a place he can call his own and feel proud of. Norberto R. has been a tenant in our deeply affordable property since February of 2017. We are proud to announce that he has successfully transitioned from shared living in our property to accomplishing his goal of obtaining a one- bedroom apartment on 03/07/2022. He is delighted to have made this transition and is thankful for the Pacific House team that got together to help him with his move by providing him with a bed, pots, pans, and other household items. 18 WWW.PACIFICHOUSE.ORG
WE ARE PROUD OF OUR CLIENTS Our mission is to prevent and end homelessness, including our Young Adult Program for clients ages 18 to 24, which has become an essential strategy in pursuit of that mission. This program assists homeless Young Adults in finding housing as quickly as possible. In addition, the program connects clients with community services and resources that develop the self-sufficiency and reliance that will reduce the likelihood of homelessness in the future. Our Business Development Manager, Jennifer Broadbin used her social media platform to secure beds for two young adults who recently moved into new-to-them apartments! We love calling our clients "former" Young Adult Program clients. We are thankful to our donors that helped purchase the bed and helped supply kitchen and bath essentials through our Baskets of Hope initiative. Now this young man is set up and grateful he has a safe place to call home! TO SEE MORE CLIENT TRANSFORMATIONS WWW.PACIFICHOUSE.ORG 19

We consider many of our staff frontline workers. They deal with some of the most challenging populations and do it with care for each person they work with to get them off the streets. Along with health workers, they have reported symptoms of mental distress due to burnout and exhaustion. When health workers feel supported in their work, they have better mental health outcomes. We are grateful to have dedicated team members who continuously support and lift up one another. GET TO KNOW OUR TEAM MEMBERS How great is a spontaneous show of support? 22 WWW.PACIFICHOUSE.ORG
