Religious Heritage St-Michel Cathedral Basilica, Guided Tour The Saint-Michel Cathedral Basilica is the seat of the Sherbrooke archdiocese, which covers the diocese of Sherbrooke, Nicolet and Saint-Hyacinthe. It was built on the heights of the Saint-Michel cliff, a few steps from downtown. Perched on a sort of acropolis, it dominates the city and the surrounding area with its massive, robust silhouette which has more aerial lines of the archiepiscopal palace, with the look of a fortified castle. The archbishopric and the cathedral today form a whole, with impressive masonry which reveals the evolution of the mind of the main architect of this work, Louis-Napoléon Audet. Religious Heritage Sanctuaire du Sacré-Coeur de Beauvoir The Sanctuaire du Sacré-Cœur de Beauvoir is a pilgrimage stop dedicated to the Sacred Heart. It offers a panoramic view of the city of Sherbrooke. The stone chapel welcomes you any season. The Eucharist is celebrated every day in the white church that can welcome up to 300 people. When it is nice out, the outdoor chapel can welcome 1000-1500 people Sundays (at 10am and 11:30am). Over the years, a series of 8 evangelical scenes, which is called the Evangelical walk, have been installed in the gardens. Also discover the path of peace in the woods as well as the Zundel path around one of the marshes that traverses the best sites at Beauvoir. Take the time to contemplate in the magnificent and historical stone chapel, built in 1920. Around Sherbrooke Abbaye de Saint-Benoît-du-Lac Since 1912, the Benedictine monks have lived in this monastery built on the west side of Lake Memphrémagog. A Eucharist in Gregorian chant is celebrated each day, and the Lauds (7:30am) and Vespers (5pm) are also sung in Gregorian. Certain portions of these public prayers use French. The monastery’s guest quarters host men who would like to rest in a feeling of contemplation and peace. Women can be hosted in a neighbouring home run by nuns.
