World Coconut Day: 03 September World Coconut Day is observed every year on 03 September. The main objective of celebrating this day is to create awareness across the globe about the importance of the coconut and its benefits. The day is especially marked in countries under Asian and Pacific regions by the Asian and Pacific Coconut Community (APCC) as they house most of the world’s coconut growing production centres. The theme of World Coconut Day this year is – ‘Invest in Coconut to save the world’. In India, Kerala tops the production in coconut, but Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are also picking up in this sector. Google partners with Bangladesh for flood forecasting Google has partnered with Bangladesh Water Development Board to bring the flood warning services to the country. It currently covers more than 40 million people in Bangladesh and it is working to expand its coverage to the whole of the country. Google is working to launch a new forecasting model to double the lead time so that people have an extra day or so to prepare in case of impending floods. It said the is available in Hindi, Bengali and seven other local languages. The company is also partnering with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to build to deliver alerts to people who don’t have smart phones to receive the alerts directly. The company uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to analyse historical data to predict flood in the river basins. Google launched its flood forecasting pilot programme in Patna in 2018.
National Nutrition Week 2020 1-7 September National Nutrition Week is observed every year from 1st September to 7th September since 1982. It can be considered a significant period to raise awareness on the therapeutic effects of foods. The day promotes awareness about proper nutrition in a diet The events of NNW are organised by the Food and Nutrition Board of the Ministry of Women and Child Development(WCD), Government of India to educate the importance and role of nutrition in the human body. The Zero Hour will be restricted. There will also be no breaks during the session, which will be held from 14th September to 1st October. Both the houses will function on Saturdays and Sundays as well. In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the session will be held in two shifts -- 9 A.M. to 1 P.M. and 3 P.M. to 7 P.M. Except for the first day, the Rajya Sabha will sit in the morning shift and the Lok Sabha will sit in the evening. Govt blocked 118 mobile apps including PUBG
The Government has blocked 118 mobile apps including PUBG which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, Defence of India, Security of State and Public Order. The move will safeguard the interests of crores of Indian mobile and internet users. This decision is a targeted move to ensure safety, security and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace. The 118 banned mobile apps include PUBG MOBILE Nordic Map: Livik, PUBG MOBILE LITE, WeChat Work, WeChat reading, Cyber Hunter, LifeAfter and Warpath. Cabinet approves Mission Karmayogi - National Programme for Civil Services Capacity Building The Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given its nod to Mission Karmayogi - National Programme for Civil Services Capacity Building. The scheme will lay the foundation for capacity building for Civil Servants so that they remain entrenched in Indian culture while they learn from best practices across the world. Mission Karmayogi aims to prepare the Indian Civil Servants for the future by making them more creative, constructive, imaginative, innovative, proactive, professional, progressive, energetic, enabling, transparent and technology-enabled. A sum of Rs. 510.86 crore will be spent over a period of 5 years from 2020-21 to 2024-25 in order to cover around 46 lakh Central employees. India ranks in top 50 countries for 1st time in Global Innovation Index
India ranked in the top 50 countries for the first time in the Global Innovation Index. India jumped four positions to rank at 48th since 2019. The index compiled by World Intellectual Property Index (WIPO) presented the latest global trends and annual innovation ranking for 131 countries. India ranks in the top 15 in indicators such as ICT services exports, government online services, graduates in science and engineering and R&D-intensive global companies. Switzerland, Sweden, the US, the UK and the Netherlands lead the innovation ranking, and the top 5 positions are dominated by high-income countries. Cabinet approves introduction of J&K Official Languages Bill 2020 in Parliament The Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister has approved the introduction in Parliament of the Jammu and Kashmir Official Languages Bill 2020 in which five languages will be official languages. These are Urdu, Kashmiri, Dogri, Hindi and English. Inclusion of Dogri, Hindi and Kashmiri as official languages in Jammu and Kashmir is not only a fulfillment of a long-pending public demand but is also in keeping with the spirit of equality. Gujarat govt decides to cut down salaries of MLAs, ministers by 30% for one year Gujarat government has decided to cut down the salaries of MLAs and ministers by 30 per cent for one year due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Government will bring a bill to this effect in the upcoming session of the state assembly. The proposed bill will replace an ordinance issued earlier. The cabinet had then issued an ordinance that elected representatives will be paid 30 per cent less salaries due to the coronavirus pandemic from April 2020 to March 2021. The state government has also decided to cut 30 per cent salaries of those employees who have been retained in government services on contracts after retirement. Goa CM Pramod Sawant tested COVID- 19 positive Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has tested COVID- 19 positive. He tweeted this saying he has opted for home isolation and is asymptomatic. He is the 11th and current Chief Minister of Goa. Sawant represents the Sanquelim constituency in the Goa Legislative Assembly and is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Madhya Pradesh govt launches campaign ‘Gandagi Bharat Chhodo’ The Madhya Pradesh government launched a massive ‘Gandagi Bharat Chhodo. The campaign was divided into five themes- Cleanliness Oath, Continuous reduction in urban waste emissions, Cleanliness in COVID conditions, Separation of waste from sources of houses and Launching a special cleanliness campaign for public places. Around 35 lakh citizens took part in the campaign in 378 urban bodies in Madhya Pradesh. More than 7 lakh citizens took the oath of maintaining cleanliness during the campaign. While, eight lakh 70 thousand people were approached to make compost from wet waste. Four lakh 65 thousand masks were distributed with the help of citizens under the mask awareness campaign.
ACC approves appointment of VK Yadav as Railway Board's first ever Chairman and CEO The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of the current chairman of the Railway Board VK Yadav as the CEO. He will become the first to hold such a post in the railway's history. The Cabinet had earlier approved the restructuring of the Railway Board, whose strength has been cut from eight to five. The chairman and CEO will be the cadre controlling officer responsible for human resources (HR) with assistance from a DG (HR). The Indian Railway Medical Service (IRMS) will be renamed the Indian Railway Health Service (IRHS). The process to merge eight railway-related wings into a single central service called the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) is underway.
