K indness Is.. - A story of kindness “KINDNESS IS…” WILL BE THE FIRST BOOK OF ITS KIND TO BE TRANSLATED INTO ALL NINE OFFICIAL INDIGENOUS LANGUAGES OF THE NORTHWEST TERRITORIES. It is important to help teach kindness, compassion, and empathy to children and adults and Kindness Is.. does just that through a series of examples of responsible pet guardianship. Originally launched in English in 2017 the NWT SPCA took it one step further and included Kindness Is.. in a translation project in partnership with the GNWT. In June of 2020 NWT SPCA in partnership with Green Bamboo and help from Aiden Cartwright (the illustrator) and spouse, Simone Tielesh (the author) and wonderful storytellers Mary Adele Mackenzie and her daughter and Tammy Steinwand- Deschambeault launched Kindness Is.. in Inuktitut and Tłı ̨chǫ. These represent the first two of nine books translated to the indigenous languages of the NWT. Our northern animals and our northern peoples are important to the NWT SPCA. It brings great joy to help kids learn about kindness to animals and to help strengthen and preserve traditional languages. We are eagerly anticipating the remaining books to be released. Books are available for purchase on line at nwtspca.com, greenbamboopublishing.com and NWT SPCA events. She may not like cats or large dogs, but Lexus adores people and longs to have a family to call her own. Don’t let her age fool you, this girl is strong!
