WODONGA WEST CHILDREN’S CENTRE LINK LETTER 11 February 2021 Lawrence Street, Wodonga, Victoria, 3690 Phone: (02) 6024 1188 Email: wodonga.west.ps@education.vic.gov.au www.wodongawestps.vic.gov.au Enrolments are welcome for all year levels, including Kinder for 2021 Be Safe Be Respectful Be A Learner Yard focus this fortnight: playing by the rules Dear Parents / Carers, Thank you for a lovely, smooth start to the school and Kinder year! The students have all settled in really well and the tone across the school is beautiful. It is a pleasure to walk into classes and witness students being learners and so engaged with their learning tasks. This can also be said for our little Kinder kids as well. We have certainly been lucky coming back to school with such lovely weather where we have not had even one very hot day – certainly a change from what we have been used to. Tutor Learning Initiative This year all schools in Victoria have been allocated some funds to implement a Tutor program to provide some extra Reading or Mathematics support to identified children. Our school has used a variety of data sources to choose small groups of children who will be participating during their normal Reading and Mathematics sessions 3 – 4 times per week. We will be providing a letter to families informing them if your child will be participating any time across the year. Initially we will be targeting year 3 and 4 students. I wish to also add that our school also offers some additional assistance from our Specialist teachers who take small group work to support student learning in maths / reading. Ms Penman, Mrs Boyd and Ms Fitzsimons will be involved as tutors, and all three will work in conjunction with the classroom teachers to develop Individual Learning Plans and work with the students regularly in small groups. Student progress will be closely monitored using a number of student assessments. School Council Elections This year we have three Parent category vacancies of 2 years, one DET Employee category vacancy of 2 years, and one Community ( Kindergarten ) vacancy of one year. Retiring School Council members are also eligible to be re- nominated for a further period on School Council . Nomination forms are available from the front office and the closing date is Friday February 19th. This information was posted on Compass earlier this week. Our next School Council Meeting is next Wednesday 17th February beginning at 5pm. School Photos Just the heads up that school photos have been booked for Wednesday March 3rd. More information will be coming home ( as well as the order forms ) shortly. MSP Photography will be booking a future date for the Kindergarten later in the year for their photos to be taken. On school photo day it is most important for students to be in full school uniform. Our families always go to lots of trouble and have their child/ren looking gorgeous for school photos.
PFF Our Parents Family and Friends committee have started their regular meetings and are busy organising an upcoming ice cream day. The next PFF meetings will be held at 9:30 am on Monday 1st March and Monday 29th March. Continued Wander Through West To the many families who visited us on Tuesday evening for “Wander Through West’ I would like to sincerely thank you all. We had an excellent turn- out of 93 parents / carers plus many older siblings and some Grandparents. One clever family even did a phone virtual tour with their Grandparents who live in Melbourne which was awesome to see! The students very proudly gave their parents a walk through, with many visiting the Specialist areas and our huge Garden to see our chickens and all the produce we grow for use in the Kitchen. Our staff really enjoyed having the opportunity to meet up and have an informal discussion with you all as well as show you their classrooms. Thank you to families for posing for photos ( some of which I have included below ) With so many families, we can’t place all of them in the Linkletter. Regards Jocelyn Owen Principal
