BY BROOK VALLEY C of E PRIMARY SCHOOL Tel: 01249-783006 www.bybrookvalleyschool.co.uk Thursday 17 December 2020 Value: Compassion Theme: Celebrating the birth of Jesus our Saviour “And she gave birth to her first born son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.” Luke 2:7 Message from Mr Pike Despite things being slightly different to normal in the build up towards Christmas, the school has still been filled with the sound of some amazing singing. The Christingle services held by each bubble were magical experiences with the children exploring the symbolism and sharing Jesus (and the pupils themselves) being the light of the World. Last Friday, the school felt very festive as everyone wore their Christmas jumpers and/or hats and enjoyed their delicious Christmas lunch. As the term draws to a close, I would like to firstly thank all of the school staff and governors for all their hard work, dedication and positivity. Secondly, I would also like to thank all parents and carers for your continued support of the school and the welcome you have given me. Finally, I want to say a massive well done to all the pupils for their efforts and enthusiasm. Congratulations to the following pupils who were nominated to share a Hot Chocolate with Mr Pike: Jacob (Y1), Sam (Y1), Joseph (Y1), Grace (Y2), Sophia (Y2), Mabel (Y2). On behalf of the staff, may I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and we look forward to seeing you all in the New Year. At the end of term, we say goodbye to Mrs Valentine who will be leaving us. We thank her for all the work she has done in Year 1. Also, Emma Dadd, our school finance and HR Officer will be leaving on Friday 8 January to take up a new position as School Business Manager at Malmesbury Primary School. Emma has worked at By Brook Valley for over 10 years and has given so much to the school. Emma will be thoroughly missed and we wish her all the best in her new job and for the future. Covid Cases During the Holiday Parents and carers should continue to inform the school of confirmed cases if symptoms develop within 48 hours of last being in school. You should do this by emailing us at covid@bybrookvalley.wilts.sch.uk not the school admin email address as this will not be monitored over the Christmas break. If your child was not symptomatic but tested positive within 48 hours of last being in school you should also contact the school by email covid@bybrookvalley.wilts.sch.uk. The email needs to include date of onset of symptoms, date of the test, date of the result, date your child was last in school, how they travel to school and any additional information. The school will need this information to carry out a risk assessment of who may be a close contact. If your child tests positive for COVID-19 having developed symptoms more than 48 hours since last being in school you do not need to contact us. Instead you will need to follow contact tracing instructions provided by NHS Test and Trace. The covid email address will be monitored for those six days up to Thursday 24 December. On Monday 4 January, you will need to inform the school if your child has tested positive, is self-isolating or symptomatic and make sure your child self-isolates for the required number of days. Guidance for the Local Authority From Monday 14 December, government guidance changed for the close contact self-isolation period. The time has been reduced from 14 days to 10 days. The number of positive cases of COVID-19 across Wiltshire has continued to fall over the last week, but we must all keep adhering to the rules over the festive period. Mass Testing In Schools You may have seen in the news recently that the Government has announced the rollout of mass testing in secondary schools in January, and then to primary schools in the spring. We have received some information on this today and, along with other schools, health colleagues and Wiltshire Council and we will be processing this information to assess what this will mean. At this stage, we do not have the full picture of what this will mean for our school. We will, of course, keep you updated with any further information when we have that. I’d like to thank you all for your understanding and support at this time. Thank you. Reverse Advent Calendar Thank you to all of the children and parents for your generous donations for our Reverse Advent Calendar. Mr Pike and Mr Summers are delivering the food donations to The Salvation Army Foodbank in Chippenham tomorrow, ready to go out for the festive period. Your contributions will go to helping those in need and will make someone's Christmas just that little bit easier after such a challenging year. Thank you for helping us spread some Christmas joy to our local community. Please see the attached pictures of your kind donations. Bristol Aquarium The children of Falcons and Kestrels classes will be bringing home a letter today about a trip to the Bristol Aquarium on Thursday 14 January 2021. We hope that this trip is able to go ahead but if the aquarium has to close due to COVID we will postpone it until later in the year. Please complete and return the reply slip to our child’s teacher by Monday 11 January 2021. Thank you. Netball We have been in contact with PH Sports and are pleased to tell you that the Netball after school club will start on Wednesday 13 January with the same children. This club is full. Lost Property Please remember to retrieve any lost items from the lost property box as the box will be emptied at the end of the term and any remaining items will be disposed of or donated to charity. Please do check that all of your child’s clothing is named as most items in lost property are unnamed. First Day of Term 3 The first day back for pupils after Christmas is Tuesday 5 January 2021. School Car Park Please could we remind all parents that the school car park should not be used at the end of the day unless you are a blue badge holder. Thank you. Procedures for School Closure In The Event of Bad Weather As the winter is now upon us, we need to advise parents of the procedures in place, if the school is forced to close due to bad weather. The procedure is for schools to notify parents via Heart FM radio. Notices will also be put on the front page of the school website in the event of a closure. We ask that parents DO NOT telephone the school. The decision to close the school is based on the safety of staff and children travelling to school and also around the school site. If the school opens but weather conditions worsen, parents whose children attend Bubbles After School Club will be notified by 2.00pm if Bubbles will not be operating due to the weather. A member of staff will remain with children until 4.00pm at the latest to allow parents time to make alternative arrangements.
