May 2022 The Observer America — Home of the free * Because of the brave Mater Dei Council No. 4129 Knights of Columbus Newtown Square, PA 19073 Editor: Robert A. Barson, Past Grand Knight THE HOLY ROSARY A DEVOTION FOR ALL SEASONS Pope John Paul II called on us to deepen our appreciation of our Christian Faith by using the Rosary as an ideal means of meditating on the life and the works of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Any time of the year is a good time for praying the Rosary. Advent and Christmas are a perfect time for meditating on the Joyful mysteries (those connected with Jesus’ birth and childhood. The forty days of Lent are ideal for meditating on the Sorrowful mysteries (those connected with our Lord’s suffering and death). The time after Easter is well-suited for meditating on the Glorious mysteries (those taking place after Jesus’ resurrection). Traditionally, there have been 15 mysteries of the Rosary — five Joyful, five Sorrowful, and five Glorious. At the Holy Father’s suggestion, there are now five more, the Luminous mysteries (which focus on Jesus’ three years of public life, when he was healing the sick and proclaiming the Good News ). These include 1) Jesus is baptized in the Jordan River; 2) Jesus performs his first miracle; 3) Jesus sends forth his disciples; 4) Jesus is transfigured on Mount Tabor; and 5) The Last Supper: Jesus institutes the Eucharist. Praying the Rosary will hopefully help with your meditations on the meaning of your faith. You will find this devotion a blessing that will enable you to know, love and serve God better.
GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT Brother Knights: At our council meeting on April 7, we discussed the following: Financial Advisors for the proceeds from the sale of the home. We looked at Wells Fargo and Charles Schwab, but are leaning toward Wells Fargo. Honoring members for Armed Service Day. The members are Bob Barson, Army two years, Spec. 4, Joe Caromano, Bob Shoemaker, enlisted reserves six years, Charles Brown, Air Force reserves and active duty, Delwin McKelvey, active duty Air Force, Chuck Foreman, two years Army Corporal. From the Broomall American Legion, the Post Commander, Gerry Nail, Army, Major, First Vice Commander, Demetrius Spiropulos, Army. We discussed having a breakfast during the early weeks of June to honor the service members. On account of summer vacations beginning, this leaves us with the week- end of June 4 and 5 (Sat. – Sun.) and the weekend of June 11 and 12 (Sat. – Sun.). Also, we discussed contributing $200 to the American Legion Poppy Drive as a way of thanking them for their offer to us of using their command post to have our monthly council meetings. We were offered the use of their facility for $125 a month. Of course, we have since turned that down when we were offered the use of the St. Pius X Church basement. Additionally, we discussed having a Church Drive with the hope of gaining new members. The Grand Knight has contacted Gary Novinski, on the recommendation of Joe Caromano, to help us conduct the Church Drive. If there are any members who have served in the armed forces but were not mentioned in this Observer, please notify the Grand Knight, Blaine Vogel, at 610-356-6281 or brv19@comcast.net. Your information can be included in the next month’s Observer. Our next council meeting will be held on Thursday, May 12. Blaine Vogel Save the Dates: May 14, 2022. - St. Katherine of Siena in Wayne, PA - Fr. Kapaun Assembly 5:00 PM EDT & social with food and refreshments afterwards.
