REQUIRED STANDARD MATERIALS
The following materials are required of all future theatre arts
students regardless of concentration:
•      Letter of Acceptance to UW-Parkside. (Can be a copy.)
•      Detailed theatre resume listing all previous theatre
       experiences and activities, on stage and off stage.
•      One-page personal essay explaining your reason for choosing
       theatre arts as a college major and your ultimate career goals
       and objectives.
•      Current transcript(s) of grades going back 4 years. (Can be an
       unofficial transcript.)
•      Two letters of recommendation from current or former theatre
       teachers and directors or from other educators who can
       comment on your work, spirit, and talents.

Concentrations
You can graduate with a traditional liberal
arts theatre degree or a professional training
degree comparable to BFA programs with our
concentrations available in the following areas:

ACTING
Deepen your knowledge and experience by participating
in upper-level performance courses, exclusive professional
workshops, and exciting theatre productions. Build a strong
resume with meaningful credits before graduation to prepare
for a successful career in the arts.

DIRECTING
Explore the techniques, theories, and artistry of directing
for the stage through advanced coursework, collaborative
hands-on production opportunities, and individualized
student-directed projects.

DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY
Engage with cutting-edge technology in state-of-the-art
facilities with dedicated mentorship from professional theatre
artists who will foster your talent and further your expertise
in any or several of these areas:

MUSICAL THEATRE
Strengthen your status as a triple threat by engaging
in acting, applied voice and music analysis, and musical
theatre dance training while applying skills in theatre
productions. Engage in showcase and master class
opportunities. Cultivate a strong and diverse resume before
graduation to prepare for a career in musical theatre.

STAGE MANAGEMENT
Develop the necessary skills and techniques to become
an accomplished stage manager through in-depth training
based on current professional standards, leadership
positions in main stage and studio productions, and arts
management education.

KCACTF Success
UW-Parkside is highly active in the Kennedy Center American College
Theatre Festival, Region 3 (the nation’s largest). At festival, our students
are continually successful.
We regularly accrue a substantial number of Merit Awards (in Design,
Direction, and Tech) as well as Acting Awards, including what we
consider to be the highest accolade, The Ensemble Acting Award.

Parkside students have won the KCACTF

five years in a row!

Additionally, this year we garnered the following:
Parkside faculty received KCACTF National Awards: JODY SEKAS
(scenic design) and KEVIN GRAY (sound design) received Special
Achievement Awards for Stupid F##king Bird.
Stupid F##king Bird, directed by FABRICE CONTE-WILLIAMSON,
received an invitation to the KCACTF Region III as one of five plays to
be showcased at the regional festival. The playwright Aaron Posner
attended the production and spoke with the company about their work.
MISTI BRADFORD, chair of the Theatre Arts Department, was
selected the incoming National Vice Chair of Design, Technology, and
Management (DTM) for KCACTF. She will serve as Vice Chair for three
years and then move up to become National Chair of DTM.
JACK PURVES ‘21 received the Award for Theatrical Design Excellence
in Sound for The Complete Works of William Shakespeare [abridged]
and the Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas Scholarship
JENNY BAUER ‘22 received the Vector Words Award for Technical
Drafting & Design.
Based on their work as Finalists in the Musical Theatre Intensive &
Scholarship Competition, HANS PFRANG and ELISE SPARKS were
admitted to the Open Jar Institute in New York City!

                 EVA BALISTRIERI '11 is a member of Actors’ Equity. Her credits include: Ophelia in Hamlet, Molly Aster in Peter
                 and the Starcatcher, Nelly Fail in Failure: A Love Story, and the Third Weird Sister in Macbeth at Illinois Shakespeare
                 Festival. Additional credits include: Aaron Posner & Teller's The Tempest at Chicago Shakespeare Theater; Romeo &
                 Juliet at Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival Tour; Sense & Sensibility, The Comedy of Errors at Utah Shakespeare Festival;

                 New York theater credits include: Dracula (Dr. Seward) at Three Day Hangover and Shakespeare productions with Queens
                 Theatre and Titan Theatre Company. Regional credits include Midsummer Night’s Dream (Lysander) at Shakespeare
                 Theatre of New Jersey, Sense and Sensibility (Robert Ferras) at Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, and Actors Theatre of
                 Louisville (both directed by Jon Jory), and King Lear (Edgar) at Great River Shakespeare Festival. Jonathan is a member of
                 Actors’ Equity Association.

                 ROBERTO JAY '12 is a Chicago based actor and writer for Film and Television. His recent credits include Logan in the
                 crime thriller film, Blame (2021) on Amazon Prime. He also appeared on Showtime's American Rust (2021) as Dothan. As
                 a screenwriter, Roberto studied under Charles Borg and has since written an award-winning short film, Moon Talk (2021),
                 which screened at the Los Angeles Lift-off Film Festival, Luna Lumen, and Art Film Awards. He has additionally performed
                 at The Goodman Theatre, Northlight Theatre, Chicago Dramatists, Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, Actors Theatre of
                 Louisville, and The Public Theatre, NYC.

                 ABBY MILLER '13 is a New York City based scenic artist and member of United Scenic Artists, 829. Abby’s Film and
                 Television credits include Daredevil, Orange is the New Black, Julie’s Greenroom (starring Julie Andrews with creations
                 from The Jim Henson Company), and The Knick on Cinemax. Her Broadway scenic painting credits include Aladdin,
                 Hamilton, The Lion King and Something Rotten.
HANNAH SHAY '18 is a Los Angeles-based actor and member of Actors’ Equity.              Following her undergrad, she
  received additional training at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater in the Emerging Professional Residency program. Some of
  her credits there include Junk (Ghost Writer/Ellen), Things I Know to be True (Pip U/S), A Christmas Carol (Nanny). Recent
  credits include The Thanksgiving Play (Alicia) and No Wake at Milwaukee Chamber Theatre, Br!nk Briefs: The
  Arrangement (Monique) at Renaissance Theaterworks, Much Ado About Nothing at Shakespeare Project of Chicago and
  understudying A Doll’s House, Part 2 at American Players Theatre. Commercial and voice over credits include Motorola,
  Maxi-Cosi, Snap-On, Casey’s General Store, Johnson Controls, and Nebraska Medicine.

  ZACH YOUNG '18 is the Assistant Technical Director at the Pacific Conservatory Theatre. While at UW-Parkside,
  Zach won the KCACTF National Lighting Design Award for A Streetcar Named Desire. He continued his training at the
  prestigious Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas from which he graduated with certificates in Special Effects and in Lighting
  Systems and Programming. After Additional credits include Assistant Production Manager of Lighting for Princess Cruise
  Line and Assistant Lighting Designer at PCPA Theatrefest - Pacific Conservatory Theatre.

  NOAH FRYE '21 is the Assistant Electrician for the national tour of Waitress. After graduation Noah served as the
  interim Assistant Technical Director for the Fireside Dinner Theatre. While attending UW-Parkside, Noah participated in
  KCACTF where he was awarded with honorable mentions in Lighting and Projection Design. Noah also attended the
  Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas (SILV) in 2019 where he received advanced technical training in lighting technologies and
  programming, and Noah participated in SILV 2021-REMOTE as an adjunct staff member.

  KING HANG '21 is a Milwaukee based actor. Fresh out of undergrad, King has found great joy in working in the
  Wisconsin theatre scene. Recent credits include Midsummer Nights’ Dream (Demetrius), Banquo (Macbeth) with Sunstone
  Studios, Wallace (Miracle on 34th Street) with Forte Theatre Company, and The Captain (The Year Without a Summer) with
  Milwaukee Chamber Theater. Additionally, King has worked with Southwest Shakespeare in Mesa, Arizona as an Acting
  intern, as well as a Production Assistant with American Players Theatre in Spring Green.

                       grad school. The other 8% are well prepared for the work force, with highly
                       sought 21st century skills, and are employed outside the entertainment field.
