Derivatives Internship Programme As one of the key business drivers of the Singapore Exchange, the Derivatives unit is responsible for growing existing exchange- listed financial and commodities derivatives contracts revenues, liquidity and market share, as well as identifying and pursuing opportunities to develop new revenue lines. Commodities The selected intern will be involved with the daily functions of a derivatives product manager and will gain practical knowledge of how an Exchange lists and clears derivative contracts – a number of contract launches are scheduled for this time period which is a rare opportunity for the intern to be involved with and to learn the necessary processes. He/she will also acquire insights into the fundamentals of the commodity markets through helping with data analytics and research. Additionally, the intern will be exposed to the marketing and business development strategies the Exchange has in place to promote the trading of commodity derivatives. For this opportunity, the selected intern will support the Commodities team with Product Management, The selected intern’s roles & responsibilities include: Collect and analyse trade data for research reports, news articles and white papers Assist with the content, layout and design of marketing materials (presentations, brochures, videos) to drive trading activity Organization of industry events – this includes workshops, roundtables, seminars, forums and Singapore Iron Ore Week. Singapore Rubber Forum Conduct research on peer exchanges and clearing houses to understand their product / service offering with the goal of enhancing our offering. FX/Rates Specialist The FX & Rates unit is to help drive business and volume by developing and pushing new products via the acquisition of new customers and the cross selling of FX to existing customers. This involves analyzing and developing competitive market microstructure, implementing appropriate sales strategies by collaborating with various SGX departments and geographies. The selected intern will help with various projects involving the FX & Rates. Market Strategy & Development/ Execution & Clearing Specialists The selected intern will be supporting 2 teams within the Derivatives unit: a) Market Development & Strategy responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing strategies that satisfy the objectives of our derivatives market as well as promoting overall corporate goals. A key part of this role is in analyzing macroeconomic events, regulatory developments, market news and insights globally, as well as synthesizing information into actionable strategies for various assets classes such as equities, rates, FX and commodities. B) Executive & Clearing Specialists are in charge of managing the relationship with broking members. The team is in charge of onboarding new products and clients with broking members. As a frontline position, the team is in constant contact with brokers and responsible for planning and implementing marketing activities. The selected intern will learn about business drivers of an exchange and clearing house across the entire value chain of order execution, trading, clearing and post-trade management. The selected intern will also be a part of strategic investment assessments that the team undertakes from time to time. In addition, the intern will have a balance of frontline exposure in analyzing data on broker trading statistics, planning marketing activities and meeting clients alongside account managers. Product Management – Listed Financials (North & South Asia) The selected intern will learn about the market structure and mechanics of our suite of equity derivatives through developing a strong understanding of the business drivers and requirements. The intern is expected to work alongside market professionals, learning the skills and knowledge necessary to become an integral member of our product management team and acquire hands-on experience in supporting the launch of new products during the internship period. Equities and Fixed Income Internship Programme Debt Capital Market The Debt Capital Market team promotes listing of debt securities and develops the primary bond market on SGX. The selected intern will have an opportunity to learn more about Fixed Income Market Structure (primary & secondary trading), exposure to Fixed Income Listings business, data products and institutional fixed income marketing activities. Other areas of learning include market and data research/analysis/reporting of bond markets, opportunities to work with other departments of SGX as well as networking opportunities with market participants through corporate events. Research The Research team provides content driven solutions to engage market participants and stakeholders with key market strengths and developments. The team produces Singapore’s most subscribed weekly financial newsletter which provides market updates and collates the most recent research provided by broker members, in addition to flagging upcoming events. More recent content initiatives for international institutional investors have seen rapid growth in distribution. The team also works closely with analytics and products with Research & Product as well as the capital markets, sales and intermediaries teams, in addition to the Marketing & Communications unit. The selected intern will have an opportunity to build a good understanding of the Singapore stock market with the generation of daily market summaries for online distribution, have an opportunity to develop organisational and communication skills in assisting with the preparation of market updates and investment- related articles, Other learning opportunities include developing experience with industry platforms such as Bloomberg and Reuters Eikon (training provided) and bring a highly valued fresh perspective to our team and will be encouraged to openly communicate and contribute to content direction and discussions. Client Development & Relationship The Client Development & Relationship team is the Client facing unit of SGX. Equity Capital Market (Sectors) The Equity Capital Market (Sectors) team develop strategies to promote SGX as a capital raising venue for companies in the respective key sectors. The skills and exposure from this internship will prepare the intern a role in sector coverage banking, equity research and analysis and marketing in financial services. The selected intern will also gain hands on experience with information providers such as Bloomberg and some insights into capital markets. Market Services Market services is responsible for the strategy development, acquisition and activation of intermediaries, institutions and retail investors. Within it, the Services team develops and plan for the suite of value-added services so as to provide our listed companies/corporates/individuals/depository agents/brokers an easy access to manage their profiles/portfolios and service offerings. Market Services will be launching its New Post Trade System (NPTS) in Dec 2018. Services team will support the launch through a series of user acceptance testing (UAT), communications and handholding activities to our companies/corporates/individuals/depository agents/brokers. In addition, the Middle Office team supports the broader Equities & Fixed Income group through efforts to develop more automated data reporting as well as drive internal process improvement. Regulation Internship Programme SGX serves as a frontline regulator for the markets and clearing houses that operate in Singapore. The Regulation unit works closely with the relevant regulatory authorities, including the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and the Commercial Affairs Department (CAD), to develop and enforce rules and regulations with a view to build an enduring marketplace. Strategic Planning Office The SPO’s remit is to improve RegCo’s effectiveness through a whole-of-Regulation approach, enhancing our value proposition through strategic regulatory positioning and knowledge management. It will work closely with each function and the regulatory strategic communications team to identify and prioritise areas of focus, and facilitate annual planning sessions that set the basis for work planning and the development of 3-year roadmaps from FY2019. The selected intern will work on an initiative to chart SGX RegCo’s long-term strategic initiatives. In the course of this initiative, he/she will be exposed to different facets of SGX’s business and learn how SGX’s regulatory arm reviews and develops regulatory policies to meet the needs of the market. As an intern with the Strategic Planning Office team, you will: Assist in researching international and regional securities / derivatives market and regulation developments, Analyze financial market trends (commercial and regulatory) and stakeholder needs. Regulatory Development & Policy The Regulatory Development & Policy team is responsible for maintaining and developing SGX’s regulatory policies in accordance with SGX’s statutory obligations to operate fair, orderly and transparent markets and safe and efficient clearing houses. RDP works with the respective domain owners within SGX to do so. The work consists of providing regulatory solutions for new initiatives, crafting market rules, conducting public consultations on proposals and obtaining approvals from regulatory authorities. In addition, RDP produces a daily regulatory intelligence bulletin and a quarterly report on international and regional regulatory developments. RDP is a function within Singapore Exchange Regulation (“SGX RegCo”), and provides secretarial support for the SGX RegCo Board. RDP also maintains SGX’s Regulatory Conflicts management instruments and conducts staff training on Regulatory Conflicts management. The selected intern will learn how SGX’s regulatory arm reviews and develops regulatory policies to meet the needs of the market. The selected intern will be exposed to different facets of SGX’s business as RDP works concurrently on multiple projects with various internal and external stakeholders. Marketing & Communications Internship Programme Marketing The Marketing team supports SGX’s business drivers in all its marketing activities. These range from product campaigns, industry events to iconic ceremonies, such as SGX’s IPO ceremonies, content creation and lots more. The selected intern will learn about omni-channel marketing, become an adept multi-tasker with an appreciation of deadlines and gain exposure to SGX’s suite of products and services. As an intern with the Marketing team, you will: Be part of the organizing team for major industry conferences and client appreciation events such as Singapore Iron Ore Week, Futures Industry Association, Singapore Commodities Awards and lots more Seize the opportunity to be part of SGX’s IPO listing ceremonies- ensure that this LIVE event runs smoothly, choose to be an emcee and get to coordinate all digital and social media publicity surrounding this iconic ceremony Implement product campaigns and launches. This can come in the form of producing insightful content from videos to brochures to infographics and then using our various digital + social channels to market them Dabble in graphic design by designing impactful campaign visuals. Financial Reporting & Control The Risk and Controls within the CFO Unit, is responsible for the oversight and guidance on risk and controls matters for all the functions within the CFO unit which includes Finance, Tax, Investor Relations, Treasury and Facilities Management. It is also responsible for the management of CFO unit risk self-assessment and control self-assessment in partnership with the functions, and Enterprise Risk Management. Technology, Information Security The Information Security team is in charge of governing the security of the SGX systems through establishing IT security policies, procedures, and standards. The team also works with the project teams to ensure the security development of a system and lead the design and development of innovative security architectures for protecting data deployed into our environment. The selected intern will be able to learn the new technologies that are used in ensuring the security governance of the operations. In addition, the intern will be able to assess the risk compliance for each business units and technology units.
