SIGHTSEEING
Formerly the residence of Thai kings,
the Grand Palace is an enormous
complex surrounded by a white
crenelated wall with opulent buildings
in classic Thai and European styles.
Within the complex is Wat Phra Kaew,
the Temple of the Emerald Buddha.
Adjacent to the Grand Palace,
Wat Pho houses a giant reclining
Buddha and a leading school of
traditional massage.
SHOPPING
Chatuchak Weekend Market, one of
the largest outdoor markets in the world,
has become a must-visit destination
for both tourists and locals. You will
find everything from locally-made
clothing and accessories to handicrafts,
antiques, art and much more.
In the central business district are huge
modern malls like CentralwOrld,
plus the Platinum Fashion Mall and
Pratunam Market, two wonderfully
chaotic centres for clothes, textiles,
shoes, fashion accessories and crafts.
NIGHTLIFE
The Chinatown Night Market on
Yaowarat Road is famous for its local
street food and retro atmosphere.
Khao San Road, in the Banglamphu
area just a kilometre away from the
Grand Palace, is a famous hangout
for young tourists. Asiatique restored
the warehouses of Bangkok’s old
riverfront; when the sun goes down
the colourful lights come on and it
becomes a festive labyrinth of shops,
entertainment, bars and restaurants.

22Hua Hin Located along the western side of the Gulf of Thailand, this former fishing village became a retreat for Thai aristocracy during the 1920s.
