*CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
All may make the sign of the cross, the sign that is marked at baptism.
In the name of the Father, and of the ☩ Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
   Amen.
Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no
secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus
   Christ our Lord.
   Amen.
Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor.
   Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done, and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as
ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
   For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your Holy Name.
   Amen.
Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins
through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all
goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in
   eternal life.
   Amen.

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

    1. O Lord our God, in all the world 3. When I look up and see the moon
Your glory we acclaim; And stars in heaven above,
The mouths of infants, children’s lips, Lord, why should you rember us
Your majesty proclaim. And visit us in love?

A fortress high and strong Than angels, and you crown
To quell the adversary’s might Our lives with glory, give us rule
And those who do us wrong. To earth’s remotest bound.
                                5. All sheep and oxen, beasts and birds,
                                We rule in your great Name;

    A reading from Galatians.

W HEN the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman,
born under the law, 5in order to redeem those who were under the law, so
that we might receive adoption as children. 6And because you are children,
God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” 7So you
are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God.

    The word of the Lord.

The holy gospel according to Luke.
    Glory to you, O Lord.

W HEN the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to
one another, “Let us go now to Bethlehem and see this thing that has
taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16So they went with
haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the child lying in the
                  17
manger. When they saw this, they made known what had been told them about
this child; 18and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them. 19But
Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart. 20The shepherds
returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been
        told them.
            21
After eight days had passed, it was time to circumcise the child; and he was
called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
    The gospel of the Lord.
    Praise to you, O Christ.

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
                creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,

               born of the virgin Mary,
               suffered under Pontius Pilate,
               was crucified, died, and was buried;
               he descended to the dead.
               On the third day he rose again;

                                             8
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
              the holy catholic church,
              the communion of saints,
              the forgiveness of sins,

    The Lord be with you.
    And also with you.
    Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places
give thanks and praise . . . Here the minister continues with the preface for the day, concluding:
we praise your name and join their unending hymn:
                                                    10
You are indeed holy, almighty and merciful God.
You are most holy, and great is the majesty of your glory.
You so loved the world that you gave your only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but have eternal life.
We give you thanks for his coming into the world
to fulfill for us your holy will and to accomplish all things for our salvation.

In the night in which he was betrayed,
    our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks;
broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks,
and gave it for all to drink, saying:
This cup is the new covenant in my blood,
shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin.
Do this for the remembrance of me.

                                           11
Lord, remember us in your kingdom and teach us to pray.

O ur Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
                    on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
      Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
      and deliver us from evil.
      For the kingdom, the power,
      and the glory are yours,
      now and forever.
      Amen.
