Luke 23:35-43 GOSPEL REFLECTION JOHN 15:1-8 In this week's Gospel, we take a dive into seeing God's divine love through the eyes of Jesus. “Remain in me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me.” This shows us that we must stay faithful and trust in the Lord at all costs. To walk with him is to constantly take a leap of faith by saying "yes" to him. Without God, we struggle, we get lost, and most of all we steer in directions and actions that are not rooted in him, so he is calling us to pick up our crosses and follow him. To be a disciple of Christ is not easy, but also is an act of great love. To surrender your life to him, offer up prayers, live a wholesome life by serving others, loving others, it definitely is an uphill battle, but winning the hearts of our fellow brothers and sisters is worth every heartache, and tear shed. Lean on him when times are beautiful, difficult, and when you feel most broken. He yearns to be near you, to walk with you, and help guide you on this journey. When times become hard to openly love God and proclaim his love and Truth, don't run away from him, run towards him for guidance and strength. Francesca Santelli Junior
Luke 23:35-43 MUSICIAN SPOTLIGHT Jimmy O’Leary (he/him) What's your hometown? Saint Paul, Minnesota What's your major (if you're a student) or what degree(s) do you have? Psychology with a concentration in Human Services Do you sing? Play any instruments? I sing and I play trombone and tenor saxophone for fun. What led you to join the Liturgical Choir/Orchestra? I wanted to involve myself in Mass so I would not lose a grip on my faith in college. Did your musical journey start at DePaul or somewhere else? I began playing trombone in 4th grade, and I’ve just been adding more music to my life since then. Why did you choose to share your musical gifts at Mass? In addition to keeping me accountable, singing is one of the best ways for me to connect with God. What is your favorite song to sing/play at Mass? Canticle of the Turning is always a good time.
Sunday, May 2, 2021 Fifth Sunday of Easter DePaul University Sunday Night Mass Welcome! We’re glad you’re here! Find out about other opportunities in Catholic Campus Ministry at mission.depaul.edu INTRODUCTORY RITE GATHERING SONG – God Whose Giving Knows No Ending God, whose giving knows no ending, from your rich and endless store: nature's wonder, Jesus' wisdom, costly cross, grave's shattered door, gifted by you, we turn to you, offering up ourselves in praise; thankful song shall rise forever, gracious donor of our days. Skills and time are ours for pressing toward the goals of Christ, your Son: all at peace in health and freedom, races joined, the Church made one. Now direct our daily labor, lest we strive for self alone; born with talents, make us servants fit to answer at your throne. Treasure, too, you have entrusted, gain through powers your grace conferred; ours to use for home and kindred, and to spread the Gospel Word. Open wide our hands in sharing, as we heed Christ's ageless call, healing, teaching, and reclaiming, serving you by loving all. Text: Robert L. Edwards, © 1989, The Hymn Society.
