A Note FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Mimosa Family, June was busy month for the club. The course healed nicely in May after the greens aerification which allowed for a wonderful June full of events, starting with our Member-Guest tournament. This event was a huge success. I want to thank all the staff who worked so hard to make the weekend special. I want to especially thank Dan Winters, Jimmy Piercy, Stella Reed, and the tournament committee for their efforts and ask that they extend my gratitude to their respective teams. A big congratulations to John Knight and his guest Charlie Lunsford as the 2021 Member-Guest champions! Our Junior Champions were also decided in June with Albany Bock & Hank Johnson taking home the 2021 titles. It is wonderful to see so many talented junior golfers at Mimosa Hills. Our junior play is a positive testament to Mimosa Hills and presents well for the future of our club and the game of golf. June was completed by hosting a 3-day G Pro tournament with Bryce Hendrix winning at 19 under par. These guys prove that birdies are out there so keep swinging at the pins. The M00058 board realizes that tournaments can be a frus- tration to member play, but they are critical in terms of balancing needed revenue against the current dues structure for the membership. We thank you for your understanding and for your support! As we start to plan for the 2022 budget, the board and finance committee are committed to balancing the ongoing needs of the club against existing revenue. I hope that everyone has observed the recent improvements around the club. From new equipment to new paint, we have come a long way; yet we still have much to accomplish. Soon we will be upgrading our pump station and irrigation con- trols which are critical to maintaining the course for years to come. As we have all experienced in our daily lives, expenses and cost are on the rise. The same is true for the club as we face escalating costs for equipment, materials, food, and beverage as well as an increas- ingly competitive job market. All these factors put a strain on our ability to make improvements beyond those considered strategic in nature. However, we remain committed to looking forward to the future and how we might advance the club in both course playability and other amenities for our membership. We will keep the membership posted on any changes or adjustments that might be needed around the 2022 budget. Finally, I again want to thank the Preservation Donors club for all their efforts. I encourage each of you as members to support this ef- fort moving forward as we all enjoy the benefits of these projects. Please connect with the office on how you might support. Have a happy and safe 4th of July. I look forward to seeing everyone out on the course. Regards, Dean Radford 2021 Board President Dean with his family, Grayson, Vivian, Will, Makayla, Leah, and Braylee.

From Your GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT May and June had below average temperatures, which is good for the bentgrass greens. After the 3rd year of the double aerifying program in May, the greens seem to be better than ever for this time of year. Eventually, we know that July and August will bring the ‘dog days’ of summer. The root system is as strong as we have seen for the time of year, but it is an agronomic certainty that as the soil temperature rise, the roots will de- cline. Bentgrass is, of course, a “cool season” grass. The greens will play soft and the ball marks will be more noticeable. Please remember to fix your ball marks and push down and forward with a proper repair tool. Do not lift upwards tearing the roots. In contrast, the bermudagrass will thrive. The fairways are in great shape. We will do our best to keep the rough from being too penal. The bulk fertilization was carried out in late May and with some timely rains the golf course has very good color. The solid tine venting will be done on July 13 and 14. No cores will be pulled. The tine diameter will be 3/8” to ¼” sized. The greens will be rolled behind the aerifier with little disruption to ball roll. We do half the greens each day to avoid stressing the greens in the mid-afternoon heat. Tee times will be altered to carry out this slow process so please check with the pro shop. Typically, we raise the cutting height on our greens mow- ers at this time to protect them as the heat rises. The standard core aerifying, heavy sand topdressing, and verti -cutting is scheduled for the week of August 30th. Now that we have the bunker rakes on the golf course, please make a concerted effort to smooth out your dis- turbances. Thank you to all that support the Mimosa Hills Preservation Donors Club! The cart path repairs are a nice im- provement and the sod placement on holes #16 and #17 will aid in both the playability and aesthetics. -Dan Winters Golf Course Superintendent Sections of the cart path are beginning to be repaved.

Mimosa Hills PRESERVATION CLUB The Mimosa Hills Preservation Donors Club is continuing the tradition of helping the club improve our golf course through member donations. Our 2021 focus is on improving the playability of holes #16 and #17. Dan Winters and his staff have already selectively thinned a few trees and stumps ground to allow more sunlight onto the grass. Sod will be applied to the right side of hole #16 and the left side of hole #17 during the later summer months when our Bermuda grass grows. In addition, cart path repair has already started and will continue around those holes and as well as oth- er areas of the course as funds allow. The work to improve our wonderful golf course is courtesy of the Mimosa Hills Preservation Donors Club do- nations. This dedicated group of members has previously raised the funds to improve holes 3, 7, 9, 11, 12, 14, 15 and 18 as well as fund the Leyland Cyprus replacement and addition of over 400 tons of sand to our bun- kers. Just imagine Mimosa Hills without these improvements! If you have already pledged a 2021 donation, thank you and please mention this wonderful opportunity to your golfing buddies. If you have not already pledged for 2021, please give it serious consideration. More infor- mation and pledge forms are available through either the pro shop or the business office. And for all Preservation Club members, save the date for our annual appreciation event which is scheduled for September 23rd. The event includes afternoon golf with prizes followed by complimentary food and beverages for Preservation Club members and their spouses. It’s not too late to join and participate in this fun event. Member SPOTLIGHT Top - Member-Guest Champions John Knight & Charlie Lunsford Left - Junior Club Champions Albany Bock & Hank Johnson
