The Journey of A Hollywood Idea Virtual Speaker Series Saturday, April 17 & Sunday, April 18 Five Stages of Film Production Development, Pre-Production, Production Post-Production, Distribution This dynamic seminar is meant to appeal to anyone who has ever been curious about how an idea travels through many hands to eventually arrive on the screen, big or small. Aspiring television creators, filmmakers and Hollywood enthusiasts alike will leave with knowledge and insights that only an interactive program that relies on experts in their fields can produce. This seminar focuses on the Hollywood studio system and uniquely shares current Hollywood trends and best practices, as well as theories and funny anecdotes. “The Journey of a Hollywood Idea” An Educational Weekend Workshop Have you ever wondered how to sell your idea to Hollywood or how to get started with a film or TV idea? Do you wonder how movies get made? Then this two-day seminar is for you! Explore the five stages of Hollywood production in an exciting new seminar created in partnership with The Oxford Community Center and The Chesapeake Film Festival. The speaker series is presented online for audiences to participate in the five zoom presentations that include Hollywood guest speakers as well as five workshops produced by CFF. Liza Moore Ledford, former Hollywood studio executive, will present the overview of each of the five stages of production in the studio system prior to introducing a Hollywood insider to speak briefly about each stage of the process. Ledford’s career spans 30 years, with 12 years in the studio system of Los Angeles, starting with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment at Universal Pictures and then moving to Sony Studios before launching her consulting firm. When Ledford moved east, she took her passion for story development and Hollywood relation- ships to her entertainment consulting company. She currently serves as executive director of the Oxford Community Center and president of the Oxford Business Association in Oxford, Maryland. The Chesapeake Film Festival adds the powerful resumes of its board members to the program. Each stage of production is accompanied by a workshop to dive deeper into the educational aspect of the discussion. The CFF moderators and staff include Cid Collins Walker, director and festival director of Chesapeake Film Festival, Kimberly Skyrme, director, producer, and casting director, Irene Magafan, of World Wildlife Fund, editor, producer, with Monda Raquel Webb, writer, direc- tor, producer, as technical director, and Q&A moderator. The combination of Hollywood sprinkled across a solid foundation of knowledge is the magical one-two punch this conference produces.

The Five Stages of Hollywood Production are as follows: Saturday, April 17th - Stage 1 – Development 10:00 am Welcome, Introductions and Overview OCC & CFF 10:30 am Overview of Stage 1 – Development, Q&A - Liza Ledford Getting your foot in the door is often the hardest part. Liza will share what the buyers are looking for, identify red flags to position your project to sell to the studios. The discussion focuses on the studio story department, showing how the studio development team advances the script. The goal of this stage is to “lock the script” and attach a director to green light the production. 11:00 am Pop-In Guest: Andrea McCall, Sr. VP Development, Amblin Partners 11:30 am CFF Workshop #1 – Kimberly Skyrme digs deeper on the pitch deck and look-book as important selling tools across all genres and marketplaces. Stage 2 – Pre-production 12:00 pm Overview of Stage 2 – Pre-Production, Q&A - Liza Ledford Once the script is greenlit, pre-production begins. In this stage, the director and producers cast the film, finalize the budget, prepare the shooting schedule, and hire department heads for production including line producers, 1st assistant director, director of photography, camera crew, location manager, costume director, prop manager, music supervisor, hair and makeup. Once the shooting or production schedule is set, you move into production. 12:30 pm Pop-In Guest: Eric Paquette, Former Sr. VP Production, Sony Studios, Producer and CEO of Meridian Pictures 1:00 pm CFF Workshop #2 – Greg White – A 1st assistant director explores the details of pre-production. A look into on-set protocols, unions, casting details etc. 1:30 pm Break for Lunch Stage 3 – Production 2:30 pm Overview of Stage 3 – Production, Q&A – Liza Ledford First day of principle photography marks this stage. Time to shoot the movie (or TV show). The Goal – Stay on-time and on-budget, as traditionally films production can last up to three months. Digital platforms fill those months with episodes and shoots as many as have been bought. Producers are problem solvers. Directors have the vision. And the collaborative team work together until finally – “It’s a Wrap”. 3:00 pm Pop-In Guest: Marc Roskin, CEO of Electric Entertainment, currently producing and directing episodic television 3:30 pm CFF Workshop #3: Filmmakers Cid Collins Walker and Claudia Myers illuminate the importance of the set and the crew. Sunday, April 18th Stage 4 – Post-Production 10:00 am Welcome, Recap and Overview of the Day OCC & CFF 10:30 am Overview of Stage 4 – Post Production, Q&A – Liza Ledford Editing begins, music and soundtrack are produced along with sound mixing and ADR (automated dialogue replacement or the process of re-recording dialogue by the original actor after the filming to improve audio quality.) We discuss color-correcting and re-shoots, pre-screening test audiences through the final print. The final product now travels to its distribution market. 11:00 am Pop-In Guest: Jennifer Trent, head of post-production, Blumhouse 11:30 am CFF Workshop #4: Irene Magafan, producer, editor and voice-over talent will share specifics of post-production. 12:00 pm Break for Lunch Stage 5 – Distribution 1:00 pm Overview of Stage 5 – Distribution, Q&A – Liza Ledford The entire marketplace has opened, and we will review the multiple distribution outlets currently in play, in addition to international partnerships and distribution financing. We will discuss current trends between the digital marketplaces such as Disney Plus, HBO Max, Netflix, Hulu and Amazon versus traditional box office distribution. Guest Speakers: Andrea McCall, Sr. VP Development, Amblin Partners -Development Andrea McCall is the EVP, Creative Affairs and Head of Story at Amblin Partners where she oversees creative affairs/business administration for the Features group; responsible for analysis of material submitted to the company for acquisition; and collaborates with other staff developing Amblin projects. She also attends film festivals seeking films to acquire and assessing new filmmaker talent. As part of the initial infrastructure team, Andrea joined DreamWorks at its inception in 1994, and previously worked at Amblin Entertainment from 1990- 1994. She began her career at The William Morris Agency, and worked in several different areas of the industry before settling into script development. She frequently lectures on story and the film development process at film schools at USC, UCLA, Loyola Marymount Eric Paquette, Former Sr. VP Production, Sony Studios, Producer and CEO of Meridian Pictures - Pre-Production Eric Paquette has over 25 years of experience as an executive in the media/entertainment business and is currently the C.E.O. of Meridian Pictures. At Meridian, Eric has over 20 feature films in development and 6 television projects including a series based on the book The New Chardonnay by Heather Cabot. For the prior 15 years, Eric served as Senior Vice President of Production at Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Screen Gems where he supervised the development and production of feature films with budgets ranging between $10,000,000 to $60,000,000. Prior to joining Screen Gems in 2005, Eric served in senior executive positions at Metro Goldwyn Mayer (M.G.M.) and Phoenix Pictures. Among the films he has supervised are James Bond’s Die Another Day, Friends with Benefits, Barbershop 1 & 2, Walking Tall, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, The Wedding Ringer, The Mortal Instruments, Stomp the Yard, Holes, Quarantine, The Roommate, Agent Cody Banks 1 & 2, Urban Legend, Vacancy, Armored, No Good Deed, The 6th Day, Slenderman, Black and Blue, The Intruder and others. While living in New York, Eric was an Associate Producer for CBS News where he worked closely with Dan Rather and Connie Chung, focusing on breaking news stories and hour-long specials. He was also a Broadcast Associate for CBS Sports, working on The XVI Olympic Winter Games, The Super Bowl Today, The NFL on CBS, The World Series, The Major League Baseball All-Star Game. During his time at CBS, Eric worked on over 200 hours of live and taped programming. Eric was a member of President Obama and President Biden’s National Finance Committee, served as Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Campaign Finance Chair during the 2013 elections and is President and Commissioner of the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. In addition, Eric sits on the board of directors of the Johns Hopkins University School of Education, The Courage Campaign, is a member of The Academy of Motion Picture, Arts and Sciences and is on The Executive Committee for its Foreign Language Film Award. Eric has run 26 marathons, including the Boston Marathon 3 times. He and his family are beekeepers. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife Jessica Postigo and their two daughters, Libby and Nina.
Marc Roskin, CEO of Electric Entertainment, currently producing and directing episodic television - Production As a founding partner of Electric Entertainment, Marc Roskin has been a driving force behind its award-winning television and feature film production. Since opening Electric’s doors with Dean Devlin in 2001, Marc has developed and produced each of its features, including critically acclaimed Who Killed the Electric Car? Flyboys, Cellular, Geostorm, Bad Samaritan, and The Deal. In Electric’s television division, Marc helped create and executive produce 2004’s highest-rated cable movie, “The Librarian,” and its two sequels and the spin-off television series. He was at the helm of TNT’s People’s Choice Award-winning series “Leverage,”. He executively produced and directed more than 20 episodes. Marc also executively produced and directed pilot episodes of Electric’s series, “Almost Paradise.” Additionally, Marc resumed his role as executive producer and director on The CW series, “The Outpost. Additionally, he executively produced the Sci-Fi Channel’s six-hour miniseries, “The Triangle,” TNT’s micro-series “Blank Slate,” and independently directed episodes of “S.W.A.T.,” “Krypton,” “Sleepy Hollow,” “Covert Affairs,” “Burn Notice,” “Common Law,” “Dallas,” “The Glades,” “Killer Women,” and “Graceland.” Prior to founding Electric Entertainment, Marc was Senior Vice President at Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin’s production company, Centropolis Entertainment. There, Marc was instrumental in the development and production of films such as Godzilla, The Patriot, Eight Legged Freaks, and The Thirteenth Floor. Currently, Marc just completed executively producing and directing multiple episodes of Electric’s series, “Leverage: Redemption,” a reboot of the original “Leverage” TV series. Jennifer Trent, head of post-production, Blumhouse - Post-Production After working as a Freelance Post Supervisor on a number of Blumhouse Productions projects including Jordan Peele’s Oscar-winning Get Out, Jennifer Trent joined the company full-time as Head of Post Production in 2018. In this capacity, Jennifer has overseen post for Blumhouse on The First Purge, Halloween 2018, Happy Death Day 2, The Lie, The Calling, The Invisible Man, The Forever Purge, Halloween Kills and Freaky. Powered by DNA that comes from being a fourth-generation woman in film (her grandmother was legendary negative cutter Donah Bassett; her mother Pamela Scudder was also a negative cutter; and great-grandmother Gladys Taft was a makeup artist at Paramount Pictures), Jennifer graduated Brigham Young University and started her career at Amblin Entertainment, where she worked as a Production Assistant. She went on to serve as assistant to producer Colin Wilson on Small Soldiers and The Haunting. Prior to joining Blumhouse, Jennifer worked in Post Production at Paramount Studios on the features GI Joe, Up In The Air, Jack Reacher, World War Z, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, Footloose, Katy Perry: Part Of Me, Morning Glory, No Strings Attached, Fun Size, Young Adult and The Devil Inside. More recently, she also worked as a freelance Post Production supervisor on The Happytime Murders and Fighting With My Family. Her Blumhouse Post Production Supervisor credits include Get Out, Jem and the Holograms, Insidious 3 and Insidious 4, Mercy, Curve, Sinister 2, Incarnate, Lowriders, The Darkness, The Keeping Hours and Happy Death Day. Jennifer is a member of the Producers Guild of America.
Chris Moore, producer and consultant - Distribution Chris Moore has worn a number of hats during his 27-year career in the media industry. He started out as an agent at Intertalent and then at ICM, where he represented writers and directors like Zak Penn, Rich Wilkes, Paul and Chris Weitz and M. Night Shamalayn. He sold or packaged many projects including Last Action Hero, Airheads, PCU, and Stoned Age. In 1993 he formed Fusion Studios, a production company, through which he has served as producer, or executive producer on such pictures as Good Will Hunting (Academy Award winner for Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor), Glory Daze, Best Laid Plans, Joy Ride, American Pie, Waiting, and Reindeer Games. In 1999, Chris partnered with friends and creative collaborators Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Sean Bailey to form LivePlanet, a company dedicated to the creation of multi-platformed entertainment content. Moore served as Chief Executive Officer of LivePlanet and was the driving force behind the groundbreaking, Emmy-nominated Project Greenlight. In 2005, Moore left LivePlanet to concentrate on creating properties once again. He has since produced Promised Land, American Reunion, The Adjustment Bureau, The People Speak, Kill Theory, and Manchester By The Sea, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and sold to AMAZON. Most recently, he appeared and Executive Produced the award-winning series, The Chair on STARZ. Chris is a graduate of Harvard College.
Educational Workshop Facilitators: Kimberly Skyrme – Director, Producer, Writer, Casting Director-CSA Kimberly is a 30-year veteran in the film and television Industry. She defines herself, first and foremost, as a “storyteller”. A multi-tasker extraordinaire, Kimberly recently completed several projects while she was in preproduction for several new films, and is in development on multiple series. Her insider knowledge and experience at every phase of filmmaking is remarkable. Kimberly’s casting collaborations include: NETFLIX series House of Cards, STARZ series The Girlfriend Experience, and Unsolved Mysteries, Deep Impact, Beloved, The Pelican Brief, and True Lies, as well as numerous independent features and short films and commercials. Kimberly is currently producing and casting several feature films; Metronome, What We Leave Behind, The Hive and One Lucky Moon, a Musical Comedy by Director/Writer Peter Bogdanovich (The Last Picture Show, What’s Up Doc, and Paper Moon) with the music of Willie Nelson. Kimberly's professional memberships include the Casting Society of America (CSA), New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT), Women in Film & Video (WIFV-DC), as well as Past Chair of Women in Film & Television International (WIFTI). Greg White - Producer, Unit Production Manager, 1st Assistant Director Starting as a production assistant more than 30 years ago, Greg worked his way up to become an award-winning producer and assistant director. His credits include the Emmy-winning TV series Law and Order and Cobblestone Corridor on PBS. In addition to the Law and Order episodes, his credits include: People I Know, Don’t Say a Word, How to Make It in America, New York Minute, Burn Notice and Sneaky Pete. Greg joined the Director’s Guild of America in 1996.
Cid Collins-Walker – Writer, Director, Producer, Artist Cid Collins Walker, festival director of the Chesapeake Film Festival, released her first feature-length film, ARC OF LIGHT: A Portrait of Anna Campbell Bliss, a documentary about the life and work of the legendary American artist Anna Campbell Bliss in 2012. The film was screened at numerous festivals and museum, aired on PBS and now is international distribution with Films Media Group. Cid’s versatility in the arts is unmatched. In addition to her documentary work, her film credits include storyboards for the major motion picture In the Line of Fire, directed by Wolfgang Peterson. Cid also has extensive experience in television (including CBS and NBC in Washington and Black Entertainment Television), creative direction, animation, print design and brand management. Her awards include four Telly Awards for her work in production design. Cid has served on the Board of Directors of Women in Film & Video, Washington DC and as vice president of membership, and vice president of development. She earned a B.A. degree in painting from Scripps College in Claremont, California and received a fellowship with the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Her painting and printmaking have been widely exhibited and collected. Claudia Myers - Writer, Director, Producer Claudia Myers was named one of "10 Filmmakers to Watch" by Independent Magazine in 2015. Most recently Claudia wrote and directed Above the Shadows, a fantasy action drama starring Olivia Thirlby, Alan Ritchson, Jim Gaffigan and Megan Fox. The film opened the 2019 Brooklyn Film Festival where it won the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature. It subsequently was acquired by Hulu. Claudia also wrote, directed, and produced the drama Fort Bliss starring Michelle Monaghan, Ron Livingston and Pablo Schreiber. The film won several festival awards, and top critics for The Washington Post and Philadelphia Inquirer both cited Fort Bliss among the best films of 2014. As a screenwriter, Claudia has won numerous awards, was twice a finalist for the Sundance Screenwriters Lab, and is an alumna of the Hamptons Screenwriters Lab. Claudia is currently in development on her next feature, the true crime drama Out of Darkness.
Monda Raquel Webb - Writer, Director, Producer, Performance Artist With a degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Rhode Island in 1990, Monda began her production career as a traffic coordinator for City Cable 16 in Washington, DC and quickly climbed the ranks in all aspects of production. As a producer, she won awards from the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) for Production in several different categories. Currently Monda combines her diverse talents for the written word, spoken word, social media and film under the umbrella of her consulting company, Monda Media, LLC. The publishing arm of Monda Media has published four books and manages author brand, public relations, and marketing/sales of product and ancillary items. Little Known Stories Production Company, LLC is the production arm of Monda Media. In 2015, she wrote, directed and produced her first short film, Zoo (Volkerschau), which has won over a dozen U.S. and International Film Festival Awards, including awards from Spain and Indonesia, for Best Short (film), Best Script, Excellence Award, and Best International Short. Monda's second film, Pooch Sitter, a short film about a quirky pet-sitter who seeks love and affection from other people’s dogs in an untraditional way, is currently on the film festival circuit. This modern-day Goldilocks-ish tale is giving “paws” to audiences worldwide. Team Pooch has given $1,600 to non-profit organizations focused on homelessness and women and children. Irene Magafan - Writer, Producer, Editor, Actor Irene Magafan is a video specialist and editor at World Wildlife Fund. She is also a freelance voiceover artist, actor and an award-winning independent documentary filmmaker. Her documentary, The Bonobo Connection, narrated by Hollywood actor and activist Ashley Judd, has received awards at numerous film festivals, along with several Television, Internet and Video Association Peer Awards, and is currently being reviewed for potential broadcast and distribution. The Bonobo Connec- tion is currently on the independent streaming platform, Laurel Channel. The film continues to be used as a vehicle for bonobo conservation and will be translated into French and Lingala for the local communities of the DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo). Irene is a regional Emmy Award recipient for a show she helped shoot and produce which aired on Maryland Public Television called EcoViews: The Chesapeake Bay. She is a member of SAG-AFTRA, Women in Film and Video and on the Board of Directors of the Chesapeake Film Festival and on the Alumni Board at American University, where she serves as Chair for the Career Committee. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree and Bachelor of Arts degree from American University.
