I guess what I was trying to achieve in agreeing to become a Legatee was the notion of paying it forward by giving back. What do you love most of the role as Legatee? What inspires you? As a journalist I like to listen to people’s stories. No matter how unremarkable we all feel about ourselves at times, I have yet to find anyone who has not shared a tale or three that hasn’t inspired me or made my hair curl in some way (what little I have left anyway). No matter what life throws at people, we find a way through. Sometimes we just need to ask for a little help, so that’s what I try to offer. Do you involve yourself in other Legacy roles and/or other community work? I have always been available to help with media and promotions including writing Facebook posts and articles for the Flame newsletter. In 2019 I joined the Board and took on the role as club Secretary. What would you say to someone considering coming on board as a Legatee or volunteer? None of us should be alone on this little blue planet. We need the kindness and compassion of others to sustain us. Legacy is an organisation that helps people connect and care about each other. If that’s important to you (and why wouldn’t it be) then Legacy could be for the organisation for you. 5
