I AM A BULLDOG
The Bulldog Blueprint outlines the characteristics we want to instill in our students before they advance to the high
school. Our hope is for these themes to be a focal point at school, supported at home, and displayed within our com-
munity. We often mention “it’s a great day to be a Bulldog,” and we believe it. But we also want our school and com-
munity to proudly represent being a Bulldog. Our middle school learners need constant exposure to positive examples
that exemplify quality character. Our mission is supported with a school of collaboration, dedicated staff, and an ex-
tended network of support. We appreciate our students, we appreciate our families, and we are grateful for the com-
munity support. We are proud to be Bulldogs!

Donuts and Dish with Student Ambassadors

Mrs. Mulligan and Mrs. Doolin, along with our Student Ambassadors, hosted a “Donuts and Dish”
session for new students to Wheeler. The students gathered to collect their thoughts for the up-
coming semester. The students reconnected after their beginning of the year gathering. This has
helped in creating new friendships for all.

Mr. Bunda’s Mock Trial—Social Studies

Mock Trial

On Friday, January 28th, the 8th grade students performed a mock trial in front of their teachers,
administration, and peers. The trial was based on a real-life murder trial which took place in
1991. The students were divided into two teams: a Prosecution Team and a Defense Team.
They were to try the murder case using the Bill of Rights to the U.S. Constitution, using specifi-
cally the 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, and 14th Amendments. Each team was to appoint a main student at-
torney to represent their side of the story. Each student attorney created an opening
statement, questions for their witnesses, cross-examination questions, and closing remarks. The
other students in their group pretended to be the witnesses for both sides. One student was to
portray the defendant in the case. Other students acted as the baliff and the court reporter. The
teachers, administration, and support staff were the jurors in the trial. It is our hope to bring in
actual attorneys or judges for " Law Day" at Col. Wheeler Middle School.

Mrs. Pineda’s Cooking Club

The CJWMS Cooking Club is an after school club that meets on
Wednesdays. Over 60 students showed a desire to learn cooking tech-
niques. Divided between two groups, students get together to learn
measuring techniques, make meals, sample the food, and have fun
with peers afterwards. The Cooking Club is a way for students to
branch out and discover a love for food while making new friends. So,
mix your batter, set your timers, and get ready for food with friends!
For any questions regarding our Cooking Club, please contact Mrs. Pineda at

Holiday Fun at Wheeler

Students enjoyed purchasing special gifts for their friends and family for the Christmas holiday
followed by the PTA sponsored Valentine’s Day Locker Gram and Candy Sale.

O
Busy Builders Club!

Our Builders Club participants helped Café Fresco with
their ‘Christmas to Remember Event’ during the month of
December. They decorated our Community Room and
packaged up items for several families to enjoy for the holi-
day. Students also made ‘positive thought’ coffee sleeves
to pass out to patrons of Café Fresco.

At the end of January, Builders Club decorated the school
with Valentine’s Day hearts and window clings. They also
collected over $100,000 in receipt totals from Strack & Van
Til purchases for the Apples for Students program.

Additionally, our custodians appreciated the extra cleaning
help on 2.22.2022.

Thank you to our Builders Club volunteers who continue to
help others in and around our school community.

Drama Club presents: The Will and the Spirit

“The Will and the Spirit” came to the stage of CJWMS at the end of Novem-
ber. This was all thanks to the hard work of the 35+ students (cast & crew) of
the Wheeler Actors Guild. The show centered on the Neal Downer. In order
to fulfill the terms of the will of his late eccentric uncle and inherit Downer Es-
tate, he has to spend the night in the dilapidated mansion. The estate is ru-
mored to have a mysterious curse on it and is haunted. The students of the
cast worked hard to put together the full length production for two nights of
performances for full audiences. The students of the crew learned some
technical theater magic and had to get creative to make the several spooky
special effects happen. In all, the production was a success and Mr. Dean is
very proud of students, staff, and families who support the performing arts at
 Col. Wheeler.

                     Drama Assistant: Mr. Jordan Dollins
