YOUR ADVENTURE STARTS HERE THE CANADIAN ROCKIES Brian Morrison/Marie Curie Experience one of the world’s most beautiful landscapes. Trekking through the majestic scenery of the Canadian Rockies, you’ll raise money to help support your local Marie Curie Nurses. When you challenge yourself in Canada, you’ll be helping our nurses provide expert care, guidance and support. Every step you take will help people living with a terminal illness, and their loved ones, get the most from the time they have left together. 2
WHERE YOUR £350 pays for five people to attend day therapy MONEY GOES at a Marie Curie Hospice, benefitting from gentle exercise, emotional support and more. £180 pays for a Marie Curie Nurse to look after someone living with a terminal illness overnight in their £400 pays for someone to stay in a Marie Curie Hospice for 24 hours, so that they can receive the hands-on own home. care they need in their final days. 3
DAY 1 Depart UK Upon arrival in Calgary we will be greeted by our trek leader and transferred to our accommodation in the beautiful Lake Louise region. In the evening we have a welcome meal, a briefing on the challenge ahead and meet our guides. DAY 2 Lake Louise – Jasper 3-4 hours trekking This morning we have an introductory trek in the Lake Louise area and set out towards the mighty Columbia Icefield, along one of the most beautiful highways in the world with its glittering glaciers, emerald lakes and its dense conifer forests. In the afternoon we drive to the town of Jasper which is surrounded by impressive peaks in the Athabasca River Valley. Once in Jasper we will make our way to our campsite where we will enjoy a hearty meal. 4
DAY 3 Jasper – Maligne Lake – Jasper 5-6 hours trekking We wake up to picturesque surroundings and after breakfast trek to one of the finest views in the area. The greenish blue waters of Maligne Lake stretch towards the hazy distance and the glacier-clad summits rising beyond. The rest of the day is spent exploring the shores of Maligne Lake and driving along the valley road back to Jasper and our campsite. DAY 4 Jasper – Parker Ridge – Lake Louise 5-6 hours trekking Today’s climb follows a series of switch back trails to Parker Ridge, from where we enjoy spectacular views out across the Columbia Icefield and over the Saskatchewan Glacier. After time for photos and a picnic lunch, we’ll continue south along the Icefields Parkway. Along the way we’ll do short walks to either Mistaya Canyon or Panther Falls before arriving at our campground on the banks of the Bow River in Lake Louise Village. 5
DAY 5 Thinkstock Lake Louise – Valley of Ten Peaks 5-6 hours trekking Our hike begins early today as we make our way to the stunning shore of Moraine Lake. Our climb starts steadily through forest until it opens up into the beautiful Larch Valley. Ahead of us is the imposing wall beneath Sentinel Pass and a faintly seen trail switch backing its way to the top. After lunch, we return to Moraine Lake with the awe inspiring views of the Ten Peaks in front of us the entire way. DAY 6 Lake Louise – Banff 5-6 hours trekking On our final day of trekking we transfer to Banff National Park. We start off at Sunshine Village and the trail takes us across the continental divide and into the stunning Mount Assiniboine National Park. The route today is a fitting end to our Canadian Rockies challenge. 6
DAY 7 The Canadian Rockies Trek was a Thinkstock magical time. To share the trek with Banff – Calgary We will leave our campsite and transfer to Calgary.
