Ch e st n u t Tre e H o u s e n e w s Proud to be at Pride On Saturday 4 August, a group of over 30 nurses, fundraising staff and supporters took part in the Community Parade at Brighton Pride, and were delighted to be joined by two families cared for by Chestnut Tree House. The support the group got from the crowd was inspiring, with the words ‘proud’ and ‘emotional’ featuring heavily from people who took part. Messaging for the day was displayed on branded t-shirts, helping “The overwhelming response from the people to show everyone what children’s hospice care is all about… Caring, Family, Inclusive, Love and Now. of Brighton towards Chestnut Tree House was extremely humbling. They showed their love, support As a charity, we’re incredibly proud to be part of and respect in many ways – hugs, comments and our local community, and we joined the Brighton high fives were in plentiful supply. St B a rn a ba s H o u s e n e w s Urban Anonymity Have you seen the new photography exhibition ‘Urban Anonymity’ on IPU? Hayley Kilhams, one of our nurses, has lined the walls with her beautifully observed street photography. Hayley’s photographs are a reflection of her unique ability to see and capture those special moments happening all around us. She says: “For me, a big part of nursing is perception and listening. Subjectively, photography is the same. Observing others, their body language, expressions or listening to the personality and rhythm of a city.” If you have a creative talent that we might be able to celebrate on our walls, get in touch with our Artist-in- Residence: stevan.stratford@stbh.org.uk. Here’s a taster of Hayley’s work, visit the IPU to view the full collection.

R et a il n e w s It’s party time at Retail! 20th birthday celebrations for our St Barnabas House Littlehampton shop Our St Barnabas House hospice shop in Littlehampton opened in 1998 and celebrated 20 years of trading with a party. We were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Littlehampton Town Council, Councillor Billy Blanchard-Cooper. There were refreshments and a birthday cake, which was cut by the Mayor and Doris Lanon. Doris volunteered in the shop for over 13 years, and still pops in as a customer. Face painting was provided by Rosie, who volunteers at the shop. Rosie’s mum, Sophie, who runs Blue Dawg Entertainments and is a keen supporter, came along with popcorn and candy floss, so it was a real family day. Barnabee, our St Barnabas House mascot, flew in to join the fun and we were also joined by some of the 7th Littlehampton Red Arrow Cubs who helped to run the tombola stall as part of their fundraising badge. Their leader, known as Fox, is Yvonne, who also volunteers at the shop. Date for your diary - 5th birthday beach party at Chestnut Bognor shop 14 November. Fu n d ra is in g n e w s Snowdon trekkers on track to raise in excess of £25,000 Congratulations to our Snowdon Sunset trekking team who conquered Mount Snowdon on Saturday 8 September. They commenced their challenge at St Barnabas House before travelling as a team to North Wales where they began their ascent in the afternoon along the Llanberis path. The weather conditions on the day were challenging, with lashing rain and strong gusts of wind, however, this only added to the group’s determination to reach the summit. They succeeded in their quest but were unfortunately denied the view and the sunset on reaching the summit due to the weather conditions. The fearless team then started their descent in darkness with only head torches to light the way. The whole team had reached the base by 10.30pm where they were greeted with a well- deserved glass of bubbly, medal and breakfast before travelling back overnight to St Barnabas House. Not only did this amazing team of 41 trekkers take on a great challenge, they also look set to raise an incredible £25,000 for St Barnabas House.
