WELCOME After looking into all the French language programs out there, you have chosen the one at Campus Notre- Dame-de-Foy (Quebec) and we are very proud. Our team will do everything in our power to make your stay with us unforgettable, so that it stays in your memory as a very personalized language experience that lives up to your greatest expectations. You will be our guests for 3 weeks and you will be treated as such. In return, we ask a favour of you, and it costs nothing at all: that you be motivated to speak French at all times and that you want to learn about French-speaking culture in America. Among others, this is what our program offers you: Customized language camp for teens of 14-15 years of age A maximum of 18 students per class Single room in a student residence on the campus A safe and comfortable living environment A program cost that includes nearly all expenses Friendly and competent staff that clearly love what they do An American-style college campus, located only a short distance away from the historical city of Quebec (Canada), where the blend of French language, culture and sports has been drawing many in for more than 400 years An unforgettable experience that can create lifelong friendships! ACCOMMODATION Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy (CNDF) is an exceptional site, within nature, located only 20 kilometres from downtown Quebec City. LODGING All students will live in the same residence. They will have their own private room, which has a small sink, a mirror, a desk and a closet with hangers. On each floor, there are washrooms and showers. Boys and girls lodge on separate floors. If you wish to have a room next to your friends, please send his/her name at least 1 week before your arrival at langues@cndf.qc.ca. The name and address of the residence will be stated in the document you will receive by email in June. Your room number will be given to you upon your arrival. Bedding is provided and washed each week. However, you must bring your own towels. All students will have to clean his/her room. The floor of each room will be cleaned, once a week, by the staff of the residence. 3
The students have access to a common television room with DVD, electronic games and board games. Classes, sociocultural activities and sports will be held at the residence or on the campus. Curfew is 11p.m. Students’ safety is guaranteed during the evening and night by a security guard on duty. The monitors live in the residence on the same floor as the students. Any damage caused to the room or equipment will be at the student’s expense. A key deposit of $ 40 in cash is requested on your arrival and is refunded on departure if the following conditions have been met: - room key has been returned; - student has no outstanding debts with the CNDF and its subcontractors; - no damage has been done to the property or goods of the CNDF and its subcontractors. MEALS Please note that if you have a special diet or food allergies, you must contact us before registering to see if we can meet your needs. Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy is not responsible for any allergy-related incidents. Three (3) meals a day and two (2) snacks will be served in the cafeteria each day, including vegetarian food. We can assure you that the cafeteria will provide a variety of meals with 1st-quality products. Please bring a photo ID (student card or a photocopy of your passport), which you must show at the cafeteria. For dinner at the mall and in Old Quebec, we will give money to each participant. They could eat in the restaurant of their choice. For excursions to La Ronde and to the water park, we will prepare lunch boxes and we will give money to each participants for dinner. They could eat in the restaurant of their choice. TELEPHONE, MAIL AND THE INTERNET DURING THE PROGRAM CELL PHONE Cell phones must be turned off in class and during mandatory activities. PHYSICAL FITNESS ROOM AND SWIMMING POOL Access to fitness rooms and the swimming pool is included in the cost of the program. Because you are under 18 years of age, we need parental authorization to have access to the fitness room. Parents can give their permission on the Medical and Parental Authorizations form to complete online on our registration portal. 4
LANGUAGE PROGRAM The language program emphasizes speaking of your target language and knowledge of French Canadian culture. Courses take place from 9:00 to 12:00, from Monday to Friday, for a total of 45 hours. Levels vary from beginner to advanced. Each group will have a maximum of eighteen (18) students of the same level. Please take note that you must bring your school supplies (sheets, writing pad, binder, pencils, bilingual pocket dictionary, etc.). PLACEMENT TESTS The written placement test will be done online. After registering, return to the portal www.cndf.qc.ca/sportnet/en, login with your parents’ username and password, select Forms then French placement test. When you're done, remember to click I'm done. The oral test will be held within the second few days of camp. CULTURAL ACTIVITIES & SPORTS You will participate in a summer program, and we know you want to get the most out of it. You can count on our experienced team to prepare amazing and surprising activities for you! All the activities are compulsory. The student/monitor ratio is 15/1. During free time, students must stay on campus. A choice of activities will be offered (sports, arts). The team of chaperones always accompanies the students in the school bus during excursions or cultural visits, etc. As soon as the bus arrives at the destination, however, the students may have our permission to visit the place without supervision. They must always be in a group of at least four people. In case of emergency, chaperones will be present at each location. A complete program of activities will be handed out upon your arrival. You fill find a copy of a typical schedule in the appendices. CULTURAL ACTIVITIES AND SPORTS: - Visit of the Old Quebec and all its historic buildings and monuments - Sociocultural workshops (arts, theatre and improvisation, cooking, photo album, music, leadership, health and wellness) - Talent show, video evening - Bowling, dinner in the Old Quebec - Basketball, soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, Flag Football, CrossFit… EXCURSIONS: - Montreal La Ronde (Amusement Park) - Village Vacances Valcartier (Water Park) - Montmorency Falls, Sainte-Anne Basilica and Canyon Sainte-Anne - Aquarium 5
TOBACCO, ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE, ALCOHOL AND DRUGS Tobacco and electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) products, alcoholic beverages and drugs are strictly prohibited. The Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy cannot be held responsible for any legal, moral, physical, or financial problem that one may cause by not conforming to the rules and expectations of the CNDF, or to the laws in effect in the province of Quebec and in Canada. In case of disciplinary measures or early return home, other than for family emergencies, there will be no refund. PERSONAL ARTICLES TO BE BROUGHT FROM HOME Every student is responsible for the washing of his/her own clothes and towels. Coin-operated washers ($2.25), dryers ($2.00) and ironing facilities are located in the building. Change can be made at the front desk. You can also buy a detergent and fabric softener for the dryer. Summer temperature in Quebec is normally 25o C. (80o F) during the day and normally about 18o C. (66o F) during the night. Sometimes it is exceptionally hot in Quebec. We suggest that all students bring a small fan. DRESS CODE: - The student consents to wear appropriate clothes - Shorts, skirts or dresses shorter than mid-thigh are not tolerated - Crop top or other tops that are too revealing are not tolerated - Any clothes with violent or discriminatory messages or showing illegal products are not tolerated. HOSPITAL AND MEDICAL INSURANCE Each student is responsible of his medical fees. We suggest that parents supply their child with a bank card or credit card. The CNDF will not lend money to students, at any moment. CANADIAN STUDENTS You must always have your Provincial Medicare card on you. It is recommended to contact your Provincial Health Insurance to confirm your insurance coverage. If your insurance is not sufficient, make sure that you can cover any remaining cost. INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS Canadian laws require all international students to have “personal hospital and medical insurance” prior to the arrival of the student in Quebec. You must present your proof of insurance at your arrival at the residence, and always carry it with you. MEDICAL FORM It is very important to complete thoroughly the medical form you will find online. Please indicate all the information concerning the student’s medication, physical and mental condition. This information is necessary in order to offer a safe environment that meets the students’ needs. A false declaration could result in the exclusion from the program. VISA (international students) It is your responsibility to check with the authorities of Immigration Canada to see if you must obtain a visa. PERSONAL EXPENSES Each student should have sufficient spending money for the duration of the camp. Depending on personal needs, this amount could vary between $ 25 and $ 50 per week. Promotional items: - Hoody : $ 40 taxes included - Tot Bag : $ 5 taxes included We also recommend bringing Bank Card instead of cash. No bank transfer with the CNDF bank will be possible. There is an ATM machine at the cafeteria (Interac, Mastercard, Maestro, Cirrus, American Express). HOW TO GET TO CAMPUS NOTRE-DAME-DE-FOY Do not forget to fill out the online form regarding transportation at least two weeks before your arrival. This information will help us plan your arrival and departure day. FROM THE AIRPORT: An animator will be at Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB) to greet you on Saturday, June 25 or on Thursday, July 21. We will be at the airport from 9:00 a.m. until the last flight of the day. A school bus chartered by the CNDF will bring participants directly to the CNDF. It will be the same at the end of the stay for the return to the airport. FROM SAINTE-FOY BUS OR TRAIN STATION: An animator will pick up the participant at the bus or train station on Saturday, June 25 or Thursday, July 21. It will be the same at the end of the stay to return to the bus or train station. BY CAR: Go directly to the Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy. 7
FINAL DETAILS BEFORE ARRIVAL In early June, we will email you the final details of the program: - COVID-19 health measures. - Name and address of the student residence. Please note that our language camps are subject to change due to COVID-19 and related government directives. TO FILL OUT ONLINE SOME FORMS AND TO DO THE FRENCH PLACEMENT TEST AT: www.cndf.qc.ca/sportnet/en Parents must login with their username and password Select Forms o The parent or legal guardian must fill out those two forms (Medical form and Parental authorizations, Information on arrival and departure) o The participant (student) must write the French placement test. When you have finished the test, don’t forget to click on I AM FINISHED. Please note that it is impossible to modify your information once the forms have been completed. All modifications must be sent by email at langues@cndf.qc.ca. 3. TO BRING: Your Photo ID (student card or a photocopy of your passport). You must show it to the cafeteria staff.
