In this regard, Carlos Sanlorenzo, General Secretary of the National Association of Nautical Companies
(ANEN), explains that “the 2018 nautical season has remained positive, with a 4.3% increase in recreational
boat registrations until August”. He highlights the economic impact and multiplying effect of recreational
sailing, which “contributes 12,000 million euros to Spain’s total effective production and generates 82,345
jobs in terms of direct and indirect employment”.

Sailing Fans
An extensive programme of activities and experiences to promote sailing will be another of the great
attractions of this year’s Boat Show. Thus, Fira de Barcelona’s Show launches a new slogan, “Fans of the
sea”, seeking to target new audiences. Director Jordi Freixas states that “year after year, it shows that it is
one of the best instruments in the sector for increasing the number of enthusiasts”.

In addition, the Barcelona Boat Show will attach particular importance to sport-related and light sailing as
a result of the partnership with the Barcelona Oceanic Navigation Foundation (FNOB in its Spanish initials)
and the Catalan Sailing Federation (FCV in its Catalan initials). The Show will feature 12 light sailing,
initiation and oceanic boats in the water and on land, and a promotional space (“Sailing Fans”) at El Moll
de la Fusta.

It will also offer various experiences to enable visitors to enjoy the sea. Thus, in the Fun Beach Area there
will be a testing area for light sailing, kayak and paddle surfing sessions, while there will be a further
Barcelona SUP Festival, a meeting place for paddle surfers who will perform this activity in the Port Vell's
waters, and the second Barcelona Paddle Race, an open-sea competition departing from the show venue
and finishing in Badalona.

Together with the above, the Traditional Marina area hosting an exhibition of classic boats with workshops
and activities for the whole family and the Noche de la Náutica (The Nautical Evening), with live music,
fashion shows and tastings, will complement the attractive schedule of activities.

Similarly, the show will reinforce its gastronomy-related proposals, once again providing the wide range of
products on offer in the OneOcean Club and Nautic Food Plaza areas.

Safer and more sustainable vessels with the latest technologies will be on display

The Barcelona Boat Show sets sail towards
green and connected sailing
Watches and glasses that enable us to obtain navigation data and mobile applications with which we
can request a mooring, see what’s happening inside the boat by means of sensors and cameras and
even book a table at a restaurant near the port or a beach. Technology has entered the recreational
boating market in earnest, making vessels increasingly safe, easy to handle and efficient due to their
incorporation of increasingly sustainable engines and materials. These will be some of the new
features on view at the Barcelona Boat Show, to be held from 10 to 14 October at Port Vell.

Mobile devices have lately become authentic navigation screens, enabling interaction with boats from
anywhere. With a smartphone, a tablet, a smart watch or even sunglasses we can see and control the
engine’s parameters (speed, consumption, autonomy), navigation data (weather, course, the position of
the boat and others around it, etc.) and even the different cabins in the boat and the lighting, air
conditioning and background music. Home automation applied to the nautical world.

As a result of the incorporation of technology, boats are safer, easier to handle and connect the crew with
other sailors and the mainland. More and more boats have joysticks to perform mooring manoeuvres, now
on outboard engines too. There are also smart anchors which keep the boat in position using a GPS aerial
and activate the engines, as well as cutting-edge communication systems for sending and receiving
messages to and from relatives and friends when there is no type of signal on the high seas.

The nautical world is also witnessing a proliferation of new apps facilitating sailing or simply increasing the
enjoyment of being at sea. We should highlight applications that connect boats to marinas and ports, as
well as other sailors, in order to book moorings, manage maintenance tasks and pool real-time information
such as navigation charts and the locations of the best coves, restaurants and tourist spots.

Greener and greener sailing

The nautical industry continues on course towards more sustainable sailing. At the Barcelona Boat
Show there will be hybrid boats which consume up to four times less fossil fuel than traditional vessels, as
well as a fully electric catamaran with solar panels on board, among other new products, as well as boats
made of materials more respectful towards the environment and suitable for recycling.

In total, the Barcelona Boat Show, organized by Fira de Barcelona and set to bring together the products
of 275 exhibitors, will showcase more than 120 new kinds of boats, engines and electronic devices. The
new boat models, ten of them nominated for Best European Boat of the Year, will include those presented
by the Spanish manufacturers Astondoa, De Antonio Yachts and Nuva, as well as international firms such
as Hanse, Solaris, Dufour, Jeanneau, Bénéteau, Sunseeker, Azimut, Bayliner, Pardo Yacht, Cranchi and
Quicksilver.

PRESS RELEASE

‐ Recreational boating in Spain contributes 12,000 billion euros to total effective production and
generates 82,345 jobs.

Catalonia and the Balearic Islands account for the greatest recreational boating activity
                                       in Spain,
with 33.7% of direct employment and 37.2% of companies within the sector.

Catalonia and the Balearic Islands centralize 37.2% of the companies engaged in recreational
boating activity, which generate 33.7% of direct employment in the Spanish nautical sector.

Palma and Barcelona lead the ranking of the 20 Spanish cities with the largest number of
companies engaged in recreational boating activity, with 184 and 173 companies located in their
respective territories.

The national recreational boating sector contributes 12,000 billion euros to total effective
production, generates 82,345 jobs (of which 19,700 are direct employment) and comprises 3,700
companies.

Madrid, October 2018.‐ According to the 2017 Report on the Economic Impact of Recreational
Boating in Spain, published by the ANEN (National Association of Nautical Companies) and drawn
up by a team of experts from the Complutense University in Madrid, “the recreational boating
sector is, to a large extent, geographically centralized in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. These
two autonomous communities account for 33.7% of the employment in the sector, 37.2% of the
companies and around 40% of the operating income and added value.”

Catalonia lies in first position, in whose territory 719 companies are based (19.5% of the national
total), generating 3,657 direct jobs (18.5%). The Balearic Islands, in second position, have 658
companies (17.8%) and 2,994 direct jobs (15.2%).

Behind them come Andalusia, the Valencian Community and Galicia, autonomous communities
which on average generate 2,500 jobs and operating income close to 230 billion euros. These
three autonomous communities contain 1,441 companies.

They are followed in importance by other coastal communities such as the Canary Islands and,
some way behind, the Basque Country.

The Community of Madrid and the city of Madrid have significant weight in terms of the number
of companies, operating income, GAV and employment, largely due to the fact that the
Commercial Register only provides information on companies’ registered offices, as a result of
which, for statistical purposes, said variables are accounted for in the city or autonomous
community in which the registered office is located.

PRESS RELEASE

Nautical multipliers exceed those in strategic sectors of the Spanish economy

Until 2016 (the year to which the statistics used in the Report correspond), the activities
comprising the recreational boating sector as a whole provided employment for a total of 82,345
people. Of this figure, the direct employment generated (associated to the sectoral activity itself)
totals 19,171 jobs (24% of the total), indirect employment generated by recreational boating in
other economic sectors stands at 48,000 jobs (58% of the total) and induced employment
(resulting from the rise in consumption linked to the increase in household income) amounts to
14,899 jobs (18% of the total).

With regard to effective national production, the
nautical sector contributes 12,000 million euros, of
which 3,674 million euros correspond to its direct
effect (31%), 5,764 billion euros (48%) correspond
to its indirect effect on other economic sectors and
2,493 billion euros (21%) correspond to the induced
effect.

As for the GAV (Gross Added Value), the nautical
sector directly contributes 971 billion euros, has an
indirect effect of 3,118 billion euros and has an
induced effect of 734 billion euros, representing a
total of 4,822 billion euros.

These data give us an idea of the high multipliers of
recreational boating, which exceed those of sectors
with a greater impact on the Spanish economy,
including the sea‐related sector as a whole.

figure which indicates that the nautical rental market, which underwent historical growth in 2014
(almost 60%), is becoming more stable.
The lengths for rental use which rose most in number in the January-September 2018 period
were boats between 6 and 8 metres (11.4%) and 12 and 16 metres (4.1%), the same as in the
global recreational boating market.

By autonomous communities, the Balearic Islands headed the nautical market with a 20.5%
share in this period and a 31% rise in registrations, followed by Catalonia, which accounted for
19.2% of the nautical market, with a 13.7% fall in the number of registrations. In third place
came Andalusia, which accounted for 17.4% of the nautical market, with a 11.7% increase in its
registrations during the period.
