ISSUE 2 I TERM 1 I 2021 THE ADVOCATE THE OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF ARNDELL ANGLICAN COLLEGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF CURRICULUM 7-12 MRS KATRINA NEW IN THIS ISSUE: As we reflect on 2020, despite the challenges we faced, there has FROM THE DIRECTOR OF CURRICULUM been a lot to celebrate. Our College is growing, both in number ENROLMENTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS and in academic rigour. This year, we have welcomed in excess of 150 Year 7students, creating a need for a sixth class! Additionally, we have CHAPLAINCY CHAT continued to embed the Arndell Learning Framework across the College, with its JAMES HARRIS MUSIC focus on Individual, Interpersonal and Intellectual skills, which provides a JUNIOR SCHOOL LEADERS INDUCTION scaffold for students on how to grow in their learning capacity. Our Year 12 COLLEGE FEES cohort in particular, faced greater obstacles than any other before them, but they rose to the challenge, displaying the resilience and adaptability that will YEAR 7 CAMP prepare them well for their life ahead. As such, we are incredibly proud of our JUNIOR LIBRARY NEWS Class of 2020; both for their academic achievements and for the strength of UNIFORM SHOP NEWS character they displayed throughout the year. CAMP AUSTRALIA NEWS While we celebrate all of our HSC students, many of whom achieved personal TERM DATES bests, a few achieved accomplishments that are worthy of note. CHAPLAINCY CHAT REV JEREMY CLARK Child Like Faith Luke 10:21 At that same time Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit, and he said, “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way. So often I notice as students transition through teenage years there is a significant change in thinking. When younger, they listen and believe what we say to them. If a respected adult tells them there is a god, they believe them, or vice-versa. (Just to keep your minds at ease, even if they don’t believe I still find they can be very respectful in class.) The passage above, from Luke, indicates that God chose to reveal things to the ‘childlike’. Now, it could be read as faith is for children until they grow to be wise. It’s like a ‘phase’ we go through. Yet, the passage challenges this by saying it could be hidden from those who think they’re wise and clever. So, is Jesus actually saying faith is only for children? I don’t think so. Last week in Secondary Chapel Miss Hannah Anthony helpfully challenged us on what the term ‘childlike’ actually means. Here Jesus encourages us to have a sense of humility before God. In fact, we should come with awe and wonder, just like a child would. It’s just like seeing a new mountain, in person, for the first time. Hopefully we stop and marvel at the wonder of the creation in front of us. Do we do the same with Jesus? Could we just be ignoring how wonderful he is? I personally find that when I approach him humbly I grow, developing a deeper understanding of him and his incredible work in the world. I pray we might all marvel at who Jesus is and what he came to do. If you have any questions about the Christian faith or chaplaincy at the College, please contact the Chaplaincy team. JUNIOR SCHOOL LIBRARY MISS KRISTY HORTON We have had a wonderful start to the year in the Junior library. P-6 have all had their first library lessons, classes were settled and students reflected on what they like to read about. Our lunchtime library activities have begun; Minecraft Monday (Stage 2 and 3), Lego Tuesday, Quiet reading Wednesday, Games Thursday and Drawing/Colouring Friday. We have been having lots of students visiting and enjoying the variety of activities. On Wednesday 3 February we celebrated World Read Aloud day, with Junior School classes reading stories aloud. Beside is a couple of pictures from Kindy and Year 1. Sunday 14 February was Library Lovers Day. To celebrate, the Junior library had some mystery books that students could borrow. These books need to be returned just like normal books that are borrowed. Students have enjoyed using the short blurb on the wrapping to choose a book and taking a risk of borrowing something, they cannot see. Our Scholastic Book Fair will be held 15-17 March (Week 8). More details to follow in the next few weeks. For the meantime, pop the date into your diary.
UNIFORM SHOP NEWS MRS ELIZABETH MOORE Blazer Fitting Day is only 2 weeks away (Wednesday 3 March 2021). We encourage you to check if your student/s blazer still fits and if it doesn’t to book them in for a fitting before the deadline of Thursday 25 February 2021. Every student in the College (excluding prep) will require a blazer to wear with their winter uniform. Whilst winter changeover does not occur until Monday 10 May, now is the time to decide if your current blazer will still fit, OR if you require a new one (or a 2nd hand blazer). Students who were registered and pre-paid for their blazer fitting last year, who opted out due to COVID, will be refitted this year. If you are unsure if you have paid or not please check with the uniform shop by calling 4572 3254 on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday. If you have outgrown your old blazer and it is in good condition (in good repair and dry cleaned), it can be brought to the uniform shop to sell in the 2nd hand clothing pool. Many families are looking for good quality 2nd hand blazers, so get them in ASAP. Blazer fittings will be held on WEDNESDAY 3 MARCH, 2021 in the Uniform Shop. Students must be at school on this day to be fitted, commencing with Yr 7 students. All Yr 7 students requiring a blazer fitting, who have prepaid their deposit, are to line up outside the uniform shop from 8:00am. Yrs 9-12 will be fitted at recess and are required to present to the uniform shop promptly at 10:40am. Year 8 students will be fitted at lunch time. Yr 8 boys are required to present to the uniform shop at the start of lunch at 12:40 and Yr 8 Girls mid-way through lunch at 1:00pm. Junior School Students will be collected from their classrooms throughout the day. Blazers are a compulsory part of the Arndell Anglican College school uniform and they are individually fitted for each student. It is worthwhile noting that the uniform shop keeps no stock of new blazers. Girls Blazer (Yr. K-10) $195.00 Boys Blazer (Yr. K-10) $245.00 Senior Stripe for ALL Yr. 11 & 12 students – add $35 to above prices Prices include fitting and alterations . Note: Boy’s blazers have extra details e.g. pockets & lapels. A $100.00 deposit is required to confirm and register your child for a fitting. This must be paid to the Uniform Shop, either in person or over the phone using your credit card, before Thursday 25 February or your child cannot be fitted. No deposits will be accepted on blazer fitting day. A late fee of $30 will apply to anybody requiring a fitting after Wednesday 3 March. Year 11/12 students requiring a new blazer will automatically have the senior stripe applied when it is made. If you are currently in Yr 11 or 12 and already have a blazer that fits that requires a senior stripe, please bring your dry cleaned blazer to the Uniform shop before Thursday 25 February and a senior stripe will be applied for a cost of $35, to be paid in advance.
