Outdoor Enrichment with Mr Hammond My name is Mr Hammond and I am the new member of staff teaching outdoor education at Belmont. This is an exciting new role and a fantastic opportunity for the pupils. They will be learning new skills in the outdoors like whittling and fire lighting. As well as fun construction activities using knot work. With the amazing grounds we have here at Belmont we have the opportunity for many nature activities that will make the students more aware of the wildlife around them and to find out why conservation and sustainability are important, thus ensuring we can offer opportunities like this to other young people in the future. All through woodland activities. Mr Alex Hammond Outdoor Enrichment Coordinator I can’t wait to get started and I hope the pupils enjoy & Duke of Edinburgh Award it too!

Starfish Harvest Collection for the local Foodbank Once again, our Starfish Charities Committee will be supporting our local Foodbank with Harvest donations and we would very much welcome your support again this year. Here is more information from the Foodbank on how we can help them: Working together - the Foodbank is a local project The Dorking Foodbank has now been open for over six years and unfortunately there is a still a need for a Foodbank in our area. From the beginning, this has very much been a community project, with local people, churches and schools very generously supporting it. We have donation points in supermarkets and churches and every week people kindly give food to ensure we can provide emergency food parcels. These are distributed to local people identified by our Referral Agencies as being unable to put food on the table. We also provide other outreach support including 'holiday boost bags' to help combat the issue of holiday hunger among local families who really struggle when their children are on school holidays and don't receive their daily free school meal. What's in a food parcel The purpose of an emergency food parcel is to enable people to make nutritious meals to sustain them for three days, plus snacks and refreshments. Our 'shopping list' details the items that we would particularly welcome and which are part of the core of a food parcel. This is important guidance as although people are so very generous, there are some things that unfortunately we just can't use very easily. We ask that only items on the preferred shopping list are donated and the flyer on the next page covers the shopping list items to help communicate this message. We respectfully request that all donated items are non-perishable, unopened and in date. Also that they have a Best Before Date of 2022 or beyond. Unfortunately the Foodbank cannot accept homemade products. Just one or two items per pupil from the list is very generous and as part of the collective donation from the whole school this goes a very long way in helping the Foodbank. Thank you so much for supporting us. Donations can be brought into School from next week, Monday 4th October.
