None of us could comprehend when we
left here following our Bobbyjo meeting in
February 2020, what the next 18 months
would bring. Every one of us has had our
own personal stories and there have been a
lot of tragic and heartfelt losses during this
pandemic. However the dawn is appearing
to look brighter and we all look forward to Peter Roe

HORSE WELFARE – A PRIORITY
At every race meeting there are specially qualified equine veterinary surgeons
on duty to look after the wellbeing of all the horses racing. There is a vet in
attendance at the start of each race who, follows the horses throughout the
race and is quickly on hand if a casualty occurs. It is normal procedure to
erect screens around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This allows
the veterinary surgeon some privacy to fully assess the horses’ injuries and
race goers should not assume the worst if screens are erected around an
injured horse. The Blue Cross ambulance is always present to transport the
horse back to the stable yard for further treatment if necessary.
A second veterinary surgeon is in attendance in the stable yard to assess and
treat any horses requiring such attention post race.
The horses’ welfare is always our priority.
