Given in memory of Dennis P. McHugh, a New York City Firefighter who died in the
line of duty on September 11, 2001. Dennis was a graduate of Tappan Zee’s Class of
1985 and captain of the varsity soccer and basketball teams. He was admired by
his coaches and teammates for his aggressiveness, leadership and sportsmanship on the
playing fields and was beloved by his teachers and fellow students for his gentleness
and compassion. This award is given to a basketball or soccer player who
demonstrates exceptional dedication in sports, and one who exhibits loyalty and kindness
