The real estate sector includes buying and selling buildings; renting and operating owned or leased buildings; as well as servicing those buildings on a fee or contract basis (e.g. facilities management). Real estate is commonly divided into residential (homes) and commercial sectors. Commercial real estate has a focus on financial return and renting – think industrial, office, retail, leisure, medical, and hotels. Project Management If you’re organised and deadline driven, becoming a Project Manager in the real estate sector could be for you. The Project Management team delivers exciting projects for our clients, often publicised on the news and social media. No two projects are the same, and you'll work with a wide range of professionals – from architects and structural engineers, to quantity surveyors, fire consultants and planners. As a Project Manager, you will have the opportunity to work across the Commercial and Residential teams, gaining significant training in both areas before becoming Chartered. Expect to familiarise yourself with various projects and systems; learning new processes such as documentation control; and using spreadsheets and programming applications. Building surveying Building surveyors are often referred to as Doctors for buildings. They diagnose defects, prescribe solutions, and might also consult with specialists to investigate issues further. It’s a very hands-on role, meaning you’ll spend lots of time developing skills in building pathology (how buildings are structured and can deteriorate); legal knowledge (what the law sets out to keep buildings safe); and up-to-date building and sustainability standards. If you are passionate about sustainability, you can also advise clients on sustainable construction and its environmental impact. What qualification will I get?
