The colleges are now officially part of the same organisation and will work together to provide the best opportunities for our students. Although we are part of the same organisation the colleges will keep their individual names, so we will still be known as Harrow College and our students will study on one of our four campuses. Harrow College continues to raise standards. National statistics confirmed we are one of the highest achieving colleges in London and our 2016/17 year results for 16-18 year olds are 3% higher than the previous year. Ofsted reported, at the last inspection (2015), that ‘…in many lessons, teachers place a high focus on learners developing good professional standards’ and, importantly, that ‘specialist support for learners who require extra help with their studies is good and enables them to make good progress in their learning.’ Moreover, it is great to see our students’ continued high progression rate to university courses, with Ofsted commenting, ‘a high proportion of learners who apply to higher education are successful, with an increasing number securing places at prestigious universities.’ So much of our success is down to our exceptional staff who help Harrow College students achieve their full potential. We are a multicultural college filled with students from different races, religions and ethnicities – this is what makes Harrow College so special. As well as having tremendous teaching staff, Harrow College also has a range of support groups available for students seeking help. Prospectus 2018/19 Your Success, Our Priority How to Apply – 5 Simple Steps Facilities – A friendly place to study 1 — Choose a course Once you know what subject/s you are interested in, we will be able to advise you on the best course of study for you. Our website has a full list of all our programmes with detailed information to help you make the right choice. We also hold several open events during the year. 2 — Complete an Application Form Once you have chosen your preferred course, you can submit an online application through our website. Hard copy forms are also available from Reception at our Harrow on the Hill and Harrow Weald campuses. Whilst we do accept applications throughout the year, it is advised that you apply early to avoid disappointment. 3 — Interview After we have received your application, you will be invited into the college for an interview with one of our tutors to discuss potential opportunities and identify courses to suit your career aspirations. Successful applicants will receive confirmation that they have secured a place at Harrow College, subject to meeting the entry requirements. 4 — Enrolment We will invite you in to attend enrolment at the college which starts on Thursday 23rd August 2018 at our Harrow on the Hill Campus. Please remember to bring with you your GCSE results and identification such as a passport. Courses are based at our dedicated centre for the creative arts on the Harrow Weald Campus, which is home to a host of specialist workshop facilities for 2D, architecture, interior and product design, multimedia, drawing, painting, fashion, ceramics, graphic design and computer graphics. With our Hair and Beauty courses, you can achieve the qualifications and skills to work in a salon, or set up one of your own. You’ll get involved in lots of practical activities and assessments. Prospectus 2018/19 Our Courses Childcare and Health & Social Care These courses will equip you with the skills you need for this rewarding career path. You will learn the importance of communication, professional practice, health and wellbeing and how to meet the needs of clients in care. You’ll be taught and assessed in creative ways, from practical role play and demonstrations, through to presentations and written assignments and you can develop your employability skills through valuable work placements and the added insight of guest speakers and workshops. Classes are taught in our state-of-the-art facility for Health & Social Care which opened in late 2017, based at the Harrow Weald Campus. As well as IT facilities, this brand new building includes a domestic care suite, orthopaedic care suite, nutrition laboratory, exercise suite and triage room. Join Harrow College if you’re fascinated by the fast-paced world of IT and want to work with constantly changing technologies. At Harrow College, we’ll start by looking at IT in context and consider its role within business, society and the wider world. IT is really practical so you’ll spend a lot of time working in our well-equipped IT work suites. Our fully certified and experienced lecturers will ensure that you gain the qualifications and practical experience needed to progress in industry. Prospectus 2018/19 Our Courses English and Maths We use English and maths for so much; from international communication and global trade through to everyday shopping and daily decision making. English and maths qualifications are essential, with many higher education institutions and employers demanding a high level of understanding in both subjects. All students study English and maths, at an appropriate level, as part of their study programme. Students can also study to a higher level on our A-level courses. Studying English at Harrow College will help you to improve your analytical skills and help you to understand how the English language works in communication. You will be able to express yourself and your ideas with confidence. Maths is offered at Entry level, Level 1, GCSE and A-level. Prospectus 2018/19 Our Courses English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Our ESOL courses will help you to become more confident with your English through speaking, listening, reading and writing. You’ll also gain a recognised qualification and can move through the education levels as your skills improve. You can join an ESOL course if you live in the UK. We offer full-time, part-time, offsite family learning and evening courses. If you’re under 23 and want to study further, we can offer you additional support to improve your written and spoken English before progressing to mainstream education. Young Foundation (16 – 18) These courses are for 16 – 18 year old students and will cover ESOL qualifications, maths and IT and we’ll help you to develop your employability skills too. There are also assignment classes in geography, arts, science and study skills. You can join these courses anytime during the year. Prospectus 2018/19 Our Courses Foundation Learning and Entry Our courses are suitable for students who have few or no formal qualifications and who require support to help them work towards a specific goal or gain a qualification, whatever their needs or starting point. Many students progress onto other courses at the college, into employment or onto further training. Experienced and friendly staff provide a supportive and caring environment and are on hand to help students reach their potential. The courses are designed to improve students’ work and employability skills in a range of vocational areas. This enables them to develop knowledge, understanding and skills in different vocational sectors and encourages them to consider progressing onto higher level qualifications or into employment. Students develop transferable skills through carrying out practical activities in a variety of contexts. Prospectus 2018/19 Our Courses Media & Film Our Media courses are designed for students who are either interested in exploring many of the creative sectors within Media and who are serious about a future career within the Media/TV/Film Industry. You will learn through a mixture of practical and theory-based learning including lectures, workshops, tutorials, self-directed study and projects. You will be guided by professionally qualified and experienced staff and visiting speakers/lecturers from industry. Our courses will provide technical skills in online, video editing, graphics, photography, multimedia and special/ visual effects software. Students have access to all the necessary equipment for productions, the use of a green screen studio with a complete lighting rig, animation rostrum and the relevant industry software. Qualifications are delivered within the Foundation Learning Framework with core topics including communication, numeracy and IT, skills for everyday life & employment, travel training, work-related skills and enterprise. Support is provided by expert tutors with experience in monitoring progression and identifying suitable routes for development. We pride ourselves on offering high-quality courses enabling students to actively participate and contribute in the community.
