Family Event Schedule Sea Turtle Patrol Monday, June 6 • 2:30pm • All Ages Presented by North Myrtle Beach Sea Turtle Patrol, this educational program will dive into the preservation and conservation of endangered sea turtles along the Grand Strand. Family Movie - Encanto Monday, June 27 • 2:00pm • Grades: PreK-12 Join us for the story of a Colombian teenage girl who has to face the frustration of being the only member of her family without magical powers. Dance Party Tuesday, June 28 • 2:30pm • Grades: PreK-5 Join us for a fun time of music and movement. Get the arms, legs and bodies moving! Tiny Art Show Friday, July 1 • 11:00am-4:00pm 1st floor Non-Fiction area • All Ages Take a look at everyone’s art work that was created this summer. Puppet Show Tuesday, July 5 • 2:30pm Grades: PreK-5 A fun-filled show presented by our Youth Services Department.

Earn 6 reading badges to win the Summer Reading Challenge! School-Age Children’s Goals & Prizes Badges are earned by the total minutes spent reading or listening to books. It doesn't matter how many pages you turn or the total books you complete. Read short stories or read epic novels. Read fast or read slow. What and how you read is up to you, just read and keep track of the time you spent doing it. Prefer the traditional paper/sticker logs? These are available for those who prefer this tracking method. Complete your Summer Reading Challenge by July 22 to be eligible for the Grand Prize drawing. REWARDS • 250 minutes: Receive your Reading Certificate! • 500 minutes: Receive a Summer Reading T-shirt • 750 minutes: At our final party, receive a South Carolina Summer Reading Medal and an entry into our Grand Prize drawing! Celebration of Readers Party to be held at the Gen. Robert H. Miss Lynn Sings Tuesday, June 7 • 2:30pm • Grades: PreK-5 Join us for singing and dancing with Miss Lynn! School-Age Storytime Thursdays, June 9 - July 21 • 11:00am • Grades: K-3 This 45-minute program includes longer stories and songs with some dancing mixed in, perfect for children with longer attention spans. Parents and caregivers must remain in the library during the program. Kids S.T.E.A.M. - Tiny Art Monday, June 13 • 2:30pm • Grades: K-5 Registration is required. Sharpen your S.T.E.A.M. skills! Activity: Draw, paint, and create a tiny canvas expressing your cre- ativity. All completed canvas projects will be dis- played at the library’s own Tiny Art Show on July 1 and in the Children’s Department until the end of August. The Fisherman and His Wife presented by Porkchop Productions Tuesday, June 14 • 2:30pm • Grades: K-5 An updated adaptation of this classic tale finds a hardworking fisherman at the mercy of his wife who is never happy with anything at all! Will a magical fish, who can grant wishes, finally make her happy? Or will she find out the hard way that less is sometimes more? Big laughs, audience participation and an important lesson on what is REALLY important highlight this action-packed performance. South Carolina Aquarium Tuesday, June 21 • 2:30pm • Grades: K-5 Join the South Carolina Aquarium as we uncover the mysteries of the deep! Learn about the unique adaptations of the deep sea animals and the technology scientists use to study them. Then “dive” in with us as you meet and touch marine animals!

Wagsters Magic Tuesday, July 12 • 2:30pm • Grades: K-5 Join us for magic and illusion with Brandon and Hannah Wagster! Kids Cooking Thursday, July 14 • 12:00pm • Grades: 1-5 This program will teach kids the importance of safety in the kitchen while allowing them to create their very own snack! This program will show kids that healthy snacks can be delicious and nutritious! Paws for Reading Registration required • Register with Youth Services Grades: 1-12 • 2nd floor Children’s Department Thursdays, June 9, 23 & July 7 • 12:00pm Practice your read-aloud skills by reading to a certified therapy dog. These 15-minute sessions are great for beginning readers and those who want to build confidence reading in a relaxed atmosphere.

You’ll be able to tour the library, meet some of our staff, learn about the importance of public libraries, and figure out how you can help serve our community. DIY Maker Mondays Grades: 6-12 • Mondays • 1:30-5:00pm June 13, 20, 27 & July 11, 18 Project materials will be available on the table in the teen hall adjacent to the Children’s Department. Teen Movie - Turning Red Grades: 6-12 • Friday, July 8 • 11:00am Mei Lee is a 13-year-old girl who is torn between being her mother's obedient daughter and the chaos of her youth. As if that were not enough, when she gets too excited, she turns into a big red panda. Teen Subscription Box Grades: 6-12 • Summer Season The book subscription box is a service designed to help readers in grades 6-12 find their new favorite book and to add some extra fun to everyday life. Tween Events Schedule Registration required • Drop-off programs • 1st floor Meeting Room Tiny Art Grades: 6-8 • Wednesday, June 15 • 2:30pm In this program we will paint tiny masterpieces! We’ll leave the creative process up to you and you leave your work with us. All artwork will be displayed in a pop-up tiny art exhibit here at the library on July 1. Lost at Sea Grades: 6-8 • Wednesday, June 22 • 2:30pm Do you have what it takes to survive being lost at sea? At this program you will team up and learn what you really need to survive out in the open ocean. Tween Cooking Grades: 6-8 • Wednesday, June 29 • 2:30pm This program will explore healthy snack options. Tweens will get to create their own smoothie combination using fresh and healthy ingredients. Tween Gator Tank Grades: 6-8 • Wednesday, July 6 • 2:30pm Do you have what it takes to survive the gator tank? Come find out, as we create our own products and try to market them to gain the judges to “invest” in your product! The idea deemed most worthy of an investment will win a prize! Book Bites! Grades: 6-8 • Wednesday, July 13 • 2:30pm Book: Measuring Up by Lily Lamotte Join us for Book Bites! The book club that brings together books and food! We’ll be discussing the book and creating a dish that pairs perfectly with the book!

Finding Your Core Grades: 9-12 • Wednesday, June 22 • 4:30pm This hands-on program will have activities, snacks, and book recs based on some of TikTok’s most popular cores. Come dressed to represent your aesthetic! Teen Cooking Grades: 9-12 • Wednesday, June 29 • 4:30pm This program will include the importance of budgeting and healthy eating habits! Teens will create chicken tacos using fresh, healthy ingredients all while having to watch their budgets. Teen Gator Tank Grades: 9-12 • Wednesday, July 6 • 4:30pm Join us for this competitive marketing exercise! Gator Tank is the place where you create completely made-up products, come up with a marketing plan, and try to convince the judges to invest in your work. Winner gets a prize and bragging rights! Book Club Café Grades: 9-12 • Wednesday, July 13 • 4:30pm Join us for this Teen book club that incorporates food and books! We’ll be making Bobo Tea from scratch and discussing our favorite books and what we’re reading next!

We choose what and when to eat; whether we should exercise; how to calm our mind; and who surrounds us. Join Wendy Bass, an instructor from the City of Myrtle Beach Recreation Centers, and learn to make positive choices while enhancing awareness and increasing your wellness. Registration is required by Monday, June 13. Water Quality Monitoring Program Monday, June 20 • 11:00am 1st floor Meeting Room There are oceans of possibilities to get involved with water quality monitoring in your community. Learn from the experts at Coastal Carolina University’s - Waccamaw Watershed Academy, as they share some of the citizen science programs happening in the Grand Strand. See how volunteer collected data is used to make management decisions to protect water quality and try some sampling methods yourself in this interactive presentation. Horry County Museum presents Hurricanes Wednesday, June 22 • 11:00am 1st floor Meeting Room Join Marian Calder, Public Education Specialist with Horry County Museum, to learn about a few of the historic storms to hit coastal South Carolina and the impacts that they’ve had on our area. From the Spanish Repulse Hurricane in 1686 to Hurricane Florence in 2019, hurricanes have played a major part in South Carolina’s cultural and natural history. Chapin’s Cooking Club: Instant Pot Chicken Tacos Thursday, June 23 • 1:00pm 1st floor Meeting Room • Limit 10 participants Join us in-person for this fun event! Learn how to make delicious chicken tacos in an Instant Pot during this interactive cooking class.

Balance & Coordination with Wendy Mondays • 11:00am June 27 • July 18 • August 1 1st floor Non-Fiction Area • Limit 15 participants per session Using a chair for support, this energetic class focuses on improving balance, and fall prevention skills and also uses a ball to improve coordination, range of motion and flexibility. Recreation leader, Wendy Bass, leads the program. Blank Slate Thursday, June 30 • 4:00pm 1st floor Meeting Room • Limit 20 participants Based on the TV show “Match Game.” Players try to match other players by filing in the blank. Prize for player with the most matches. Tiny Art Show Friday, July 1 • 11:00am-4:00pm 1st floor Non-Fiction Area • All Ages Registration not required. To Participate: Adults pick up a 4x4 canvas at the Customer Service Desk. Paint a subject of your choice and return it to the library by June 27, 2022, for display in our Tiny Art Show. Supplies are limited. Include your name, age, phone number, and title of work on the back of the canvas. Who knows… we may have the next Picasso or Andy Warhol!

Game is inspired by book titles instead of numbers. Snacks and prizes will be provided. Author Talk Friday, July 8 • 2:00pm 1st floor Non-Fiction Area Authors Mary Beth Whalen, Erika Montgomery and Kim Wright will be here discussing their books. Reception begins at 1:30pm with light refreshments followed by the authors discussion at 2:00pm. Book signing will take place after the discussion. Come meet these wonderful authors in person. Estate Planning for Children with Disabilities (Emphasis: Spectrum Disorders) Free Legal Clinic Tuesday, July 12 • Time to be announced 1st floor Meeting Room An Estate Planning Attorney and the Executive Director of Champion Autism Network, will present information about estate planning issues for families with children who have disabilities, particularly those with spectrum disorders. The clinic will consist of the presentation followed by an open question and answer session. Registration is required due to limited seating. If you would like to submit a general question on the topic in advance of the clinic, please contact Laura and the request will be forwarded to the attorney. The attorney cannot get into specific legal aspects as this is only for informational purposes.

Chapin’s Craft Corner: Painted Flip-Flops on the Shore Thursday, July 21 • 2:00pm 1st floor Meeting Room • Limit 15 participants Wanda will demonstrate how to transfer a picture on to a canvas and then you can paint a cute picture of flip flops on the beach. Register by Monday, July 18. Topics Trivia Tuesday, July 26 • 4:00pm 1st floor Non-Fiction Area • Registration is requested Topics Trivia is a game that lets you show what you know. After the question, teams choose and submit an answer before the allotted time period ends. Correct answer scores points, with prizes awarded for most points.
