The City of University Heights SUMMER Concert Series is back with our best lineup ever! From Yacht Rock to Rap, the 2021 schedule has concerts for everyone S ummer is Back in 2021, and with it, the University Heights Summer Concert Series. We’re going to avenge the lost summer of 2020 with our greatest and most eclectic lineup in city history. Diana Chittester graces our cover, and she will make her University Heights debut on July 8, performing songs from her latest album “Paradox” – the winner of Cleveland Scene’s Best Album of the Year. Music Connection Magazine praises Chittester’s natural versatility and calls her wide vocal range “captivating.” “We like the subtle versatility,” MCM reported in a recent article. “She can be spry and upbeat, sounding almost like a Disney princess… then she can shift to a heavier, bluesy, slide-guitar infused (song) before delivering a touching, heart-tugging, grown-up ballad.” “I write the emotion, not the conclusion,” Chittester told Truefire Riff Journal. “Songwriting is about relating a story or emotion to a listener. Every component of a song must work together so an audience can feel the story the song is trying to tell.” While Chittester is the first performer at The Walt for the Summer Concert Series, the fun gets started the week prior at John Carroll University. SEVEN CONCERTS STARTING JULY 1

This Summer, Our Parade Returns But in 2021, we celebrate our Independence Day F or one year only, the annual University Heights parade will be held on the Fourth of July. For decades, University Heights has held Northeast Ohio’s biggest and best Memorial Day parade every year. Rest assured that the University Heights Memorial Day Parade will be back in 2022. However, as of mid-April (the deadline for this mag- azine), it is uncertain if it would be safe to throw a full- fledged parade on Memorial Day. Chagrin Falls and other cities in Northeast Ohio have decided against holding a pa- rade over Memorial Day weekend. We are going to err on the side of caution and hold a parade later in the summer. By scheduling a parade on Sunday, July 4, we will buy ourselves five weeks – five more weeks for people to get vaccinated and for the health risk to subside further. So, Independence Day it is! Details, including time, route, and rules in regard to public safety, will be announced soon. For one year only, our parade will be held on July 4th. If your group or organization is interested in participating in the parade, contact Rachel Mullen at City Hall at Of course, Whitmore is the president from the movie rmullen@universityheights.com. You may also contact Mullen “Independence Day.” And he was talking about fighting if you would like to volunteer with the parade committee. back against attackers from outer space, not a virus. Her attention to detail and her friendly demeanor always brought customers back to Peter’s. She died suddenly on August 13, 2020. Anh To Luu worked all her life in Peter's Tailor Shop, where she led by example, working tirelessly at all aspects of the business over her 30 years with the shop. She was kind to all of her co-workers and customers, frequently sharing with them her gentle humor. Her extremely high standard of work and friendly demeanor made her a favorite of many, and customers always returned because of her reliability and ingenious skills. She was an extremely generous, caring and sweet person who always wore a genuine “happy to see you” smile and a twinkle in her eyes. The City of University Heights Ordering It Seems Wrong, but It’s So Right The cheeseburger at Geraci’s is an unexpected gem Y ou feel like a fool ordering it. But there’s a cheeseburger on the menu at Geraci’s, and it’s spectacular. It seems like a misguided order. Your go-to order at Geraci’s should be the pizza with pepperoni. That’s what they’re famous for. The pepperoni pizza is what gets Geraci’s all those awards. It’s the reason why Guy Fieri comes to town. But Geraci’s is so much more than awesome pizza. You can get first date fancy and order Linguine with either clams or mussels. Or the Shrimp Fra Diavolo. Or even the Frutti De Mare, which is linguine with calamari, mussels, shrimp, garlic, and marinara sauce. Ordering the cheeseburger at Geraci’s feels like the act of a child. A simple child. The type of kid who never tries something new, and always orders chicken fingers or mac and cheese off the kids menu, and continues to do so once he’s way too old to be doing such things. Having said all that, the cheeseburger at Geraci’s is awesome, and you should order it soon. Hidden on the menu under “handhelds,” the burger is simple, but elegant. It starts with a half-pound of beef, shaped by hand. It’s not fried on a griddle. Instead it’s char-broiled. It has a good sear to it, and a good crust. It’s the kind of burger you would receive at a high-end, Cheeseburger in paradise, or rather, Geraci’s. classy restaurant.
