10 YOUR PATHWAY OPTIONS ENGLISH LANGUAGE PATHWAY MUC offers two English language pathway programmes: General English and English for Academic Purposes. Delivered by highly qualified and experienced English language teachers in a small-class setting, our General English programme is designed to improve your core skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking. Students will graduate with the ability to communicate in English with confidence in everyday situations and feel prepared to take on further academic study in New Zealand. Our English for Academic Purposes programme will provide you with an IELTS-free pathway if you meet the academic, but not English language requirements for entry into Massey University. It focuses on the various reading, listening, study skills and strategies necessary for success in academic contexts. It will also help to develop your vocabulary and grammar, particularly key academic skills of discussion and presentation. MUC offers a flexible teaching structure that is tailored to your future study choices. If you plan to study a Foundation Certificate (International), then you’ll complete our English for Academic Purposes 1 (EAP1) programme, with an entry of IELTS 5.0 overall. If you are preparing to enter university directly, you’ll complete English for Academic Purposes 2 (EAP2), with an entry of IELTS 5.5 overall. 25 INTERNATIONAL STUDENT APPLICATION FORM International student application form 2022 ACCOMMODATION AUTHORITY AND AGREEMENT FOR APPLICANT UNDER 18 YEARS OLD As applicant’s parent/legal guardian, by signing this application form: I agree that while the Applicant is under 18 years old, the applicant’s parents/legal guardian will liaise with Massey University College and Massey University or the residential caregiver will liaise with Massey University College and Massey University regarding the Applicant’s wellbeing and study progress if the Applicant is enrolled. I acknowledge that when the Applicant is under 18 years old and does not live with a parent or legal guardian, the Applicant will not be enrolled unless: a. the Applicant is in a supervised group of students whose educational instruction is not for more than three months; or b. the Applicant is in the care of a residential caregiver (homestay carer or a licensed hostel or a designated caregiver (a relative or family friend nominated by the parent or guardian as the caregiver and accommodation provider for the Applicant)). I understand that all such accommodation must be compliant with the Code. I will supply Massey University College and Massey University with written details of handover requirements if the Applicant becomes enrolled and should their enrolment end while the Applicant is under 18 years old. I understand that the Applicant will not receive a Confirmation of Enrolment until Massey University College and Massey University have received this information from me. While the Applicant is under 18 years old and enrolled at Massey University College and Massey University, and in the care of a residential caregiver, I understand that Massey University College and Massey University will: a. visit the residential caregiver’s home to determine that the Applicant’s accommodation is appropriate; and b. require the residential caregiver and any adults 18 years old or older living at the address to be vetted by the New Zealand Police and undertake safety checks; and c. maintain regular communication about the Applicant’s wellbeing and academic progress; and d. carry out its obligations under the Education (Pastoral Care of International Students) Code of Practice 2016. This insurance must provide cover for pre-existing medical conditions and the costs of any support requirements. For a list of approved options visit Massey website ACCIDENT INSURANCE The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but students will still be liable for all other medical and related costs. Further information can be viewed on the ACC website at www.acc.co.nz HEALTH AND DISABILITY Full disclosure of any disability, impairment, long-term injury, or chronic medical conditions is necessary so that the University and the College can assess its ability to support international students during their study in New Zealand. ELIGIBILITY FOR HEALTH SERVICES Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If a student receives medical treatment during their visit they will be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Full details on entitlements to publicly funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health, and can be viewed on the website at www.moh.govt.nz STUDENT VISAS/IMMIGRATION To apply for a student visa you will need to present a Receipt of Payment from Massey University College to your nearest Immigration New Zealand office, New Zealand Embassy or High Commission. Full details of visa and permit requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying, and reporting requirements, are available through the Immigration New Zealand website at www.immigration.govt.nz CODE OF PRACTICE FOR THE PASTORAL CARE OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS Massey University College has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students.
