GVR staff intends to continue identifying accessibility improvement projects based on the criteria constructed by the Facilities Access Ad Hoc committee, and will direct funds toward this initiative, annually. 11 Sons of the American Legion - Post #131 by Dan Cady, Commander AL Madera Post 131 Founded in 1932, Sons of The American Legion exists to honor the service and sacrifice of Legionnaires. S.A.L. members include males of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the U.S. military and were eligible for American Legion membership. Post #131 Sons of the American Legion is actively involved in a variety of projects in the community. The Sons donated a 35 ft. flagpole that was erected at the Sahuarita High School Baseball field. On Pearl Harbor Day, December 7, members of Boy Scout Troop #396 which the Sons’ sponsor was there to hoist the dedicated American Flag. During the holidays, the generosity of the Legion Family – Legionnaires, Auxiliary, Sons and Riders and even Santa - adopted four local families and helped them celebrate by providing gifts. The Sons also sponsor community-based ALLECA, an organization that supports young people interested in pursuing careers in law enforcement or the military. The Sons are involved with JTED – Joint Technical Education, operating out of local area high schools. This program helps develop technical skills that can be used in the workplace upon graduation. Please join us at the Post on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month for Breakfast in a Bag from 9:30am – 11:00am. The cost is $10. Super Spud Night is held on the 3rd Saturday of each month – tickets for Spuds are $7 and must be pre-purchased. The public is welcome to these meals. Take out is available. Both of these events fund our service to the community.

We have no paid staff and rely entirely on volunteers to accomplish our goals.
