All cattle to be on the Showground by 8.30 a.m. 2. Judging commences at 9.30 a.m. sharp. 3. The Children’s Calf Classes will be judged at 12 noon approx. 4. The Championship and all judging will be completed before lunch to try to alleviate undue stress for the cows in milk. 5. Championship Classes are open to the Pedigree Champion animal of each breed at this year’s Show. 6. Grand Parade of ALL Cattle in the Main Ring and presentation of Trophies by the President, to take place at approximately 3.15 p.m. 7. No cattle to be loaded for returning home until after the cattle parade, unless otherwise directed, or permission granted by Chief Steward. 8. The Committee reserve the right to cancel any class if insufficient entries or exhibitors. 9. The show is open to unregistered animals except where otherwise stated. 10. The milking out of cows prior to the Interbreed specials will be done at the sole discretion of the exhibitor. 11. Exhibitors are advised that pipeline milking will be provided. 12. All cattle must come from fully accredited herds. 13. All Perpetual Trophies won by competitors in this forthcoming 2022 Show are to be returned to the Cattle Section Secretary by the closing date for Entries next year 2023. 14. CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES – 15th JUNE, 2022. 15. NO NOMINATION ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED. 16. Animals entered in the Beef Classes, must be pedigree registered (number supplied to Secretary), to be eligible for the Championship. 17. A pair (2) or group (3) for entry in the Breed Special Prizes may be any animals, which have been entered in their respective classes, and must be the property of one exhibitor.
18. Any exhibitor wishing to enter a protest must do so in writing to the Secretary of the Cattle Section, accompanied by a deposit of one pound (£1) (in accordance with Rules 12 and 13 of the Association Rule Book). If on investigation the protest is not sustained, the sum deposited may be forfeited to the funds of the Association. In the case of any protest whereby any Prize animal becomes disqualified, the winner of the next succeeding prize in the class should take the prize awarded to the disqualified animal and the lowest shall go to the reserve number. The Committee will consider no protest until all the cattle in the class concerned have left the ring. No protest can be received after the conclusion of the Show. 19. 19. All Bulls exceeding 9 months old must be properly secured with a ring in the nose and lead by person(s) using a rope or chain attached to a halter with a second rope or chain attached directly to the nose-ring or via the nose-ring to the halter, with a competent person standing by able to assist in the control of the bull if necessary. All bull handlers should familiarise themselves with HSE GUIDANCE NOTE A1S35, and comply fully with all sections, which apply to them. 20. All Steers must be suitably trained. 21. All cattle must be the Bona-Fide property of the exhibitor. 22. THE JUDGES DECISION IS FINAL. 23. During the period of the Show, bull(s) should be double tied either by halter and a loose rope through the nose-ring or halter and neck chain. If the handler is temporarily absent, arrangements should be made with another exhibitor/steward to oversee the bull(s) until the handler returns. 24. No child under the age of 16 is to lead any animal over 9 months old. 25. The Association reserves the right to publish names and addresses of all exhibitors in any competitive competition. AYRSHIRES Animals entered must be registered in Ayrshire Cattle Society Herd Book, and be at least 51% Ayrshire blood. If Black and White in colour animals must be registered in the Herd Book’s full Pedigree Ayrshire Section and be 100% Ayrshire blood. Judge: To be confirmed 1. Heifer born in or after 2022. 2. Heifer in calf, born on or after 1st July, 2020. 3. Heifer in milk, having calved her first calf at not more than three years of age. 4. Cow born on or after 1st January, 2018. 5. Cow in calf, to calve before 1st October, 2022. 6. Cow in milk, born before 2018. 7. Senior Cow which has produced at least 30,000 kgs of milk. To be supported by a lactation certificate, to be forwarded to the Cattle Secretary. 8. Female progeny pair, by the same sire. Kneebone Cup”. A Perpetual Cup for the Best Animal of the Breed. c) A Perpetual Cup given by Mrs. D. Webber for the Best Opposite Sex to the Best Animal. d) A Perpetual Cup given by Mrs. S. Williams for the Best Pair of Heifers. e) A Perpetual Cup, first presented in 1933, by the President, A.C. Phillips, Esq., kindly represented in memory of Solomon Nicholls, for the Best Group of South Devons. f) “The Mole Valley Farmers Perpetual Rose Bowl”. Mole Valley Farmers have kindly presented a Silver Rose Bowl, to the Truro South Devon Cattle Club, for the exhibitor gaining the most points in Cornish Shows, and this Show is one of several where points will be gained to count towards this special Trophy. CHILDREN’S CALF HANDLING CLASSES AN ADULT SHOULD BE IN ATTENDANCE TO TAKE OVER IF A CHILD IS HAVING DIFFICULTY MAINTAINING CONTROL OF HIS/HER ANIMAL. THESE CLASSES WILL BE JUDGED ON THE TURNOUT OF THE LEADER, THE LEADER’S ABILITY TO PARADE THE CALF AND THE TURN OUT OF THE CALF. Mr. Steve Hoskin has kindly presented a Silver Medal to the South Devon Herd Book Society, Cornwall Region, and the Truro South Devon Cattle Club, for the young person up to and including 16 years of age, gaining the most points in Cornish Shows with a South Devon Cross Calf, and this Show is one where points will be gained to count towards this Special Trophy. SPECIAL PRIZES: a) The Sarah Biscoe Memorial Perpetual Challenge Trophy, to be awarded to the Champion animal reared by any member of a Young Farmers Club in classes 57-58. b) The Vestey Perpetual Challenge Cup given by Miss Lisa Batty for the Best Dairy Calf in Class 57. c) A Perpetual Challenge Trophy kindly given by Barclays Bank, plc, for the Best Turned out animal reared by any member of a Young Farmers Club. d) A Perpetual Challenge cup kindly given by P.C. & C.D. Carter for the Champion Animal reared in Class 58.
LINE COMPETITION/HERD DISPLAY Judge: To be confirmed DALGETY SPILLERS PERPETUAL CUP A Perpetual Silver Challenge Cup to be awarded to the Exhibitor who manages his/her cattle line the best. The whole area will be judged – cows through to staff – for the cleanest and tidiest – throughout the day. INTER-BREED CUPS THE TRETHELLAN CUP A Perpetual Silver Challenge Cup presented by Mrs. C.S. James, for the Best Dairy Heifer that has never calved and was bred by the Exhibitor. To be judged by the Dairy Breed Judges. Each Breed Judge to pick one heifer to represent their respective breed in this Cup. THE ARCHIE OPIE CUP A Perpetual Silver Challenge Cup dated 1927, purchased by the late A. Opie, Esq., 1981 and re-presented for the Best Inter-Breed Group. Each Breed judge will choose any three animals from their respective breed to form a group. CHAMPIONSHIP THE PRESIDENT’S TROPHY A Trophy given by the President, Mrs Sue Knight, for the Champion Animal in the Show. (To be won outright). THE LLOYD’S BANK TROPHY A Perpetual Trophy donated by Lloyd’s Bank, to be retained for one year, for the Champion Animal in the Show. THE CHAIRMANS TROPHY A Trophy given by the Chairman, Mr Ken Downing, for the Reserve Champion Animal in the Show (To be won outright) THE JOYCE AND LEONARD BARTER CUP A Perpetual Silver Challenge Cup kindly donated by Joyce and Leonard Barter, for the Champion Dairy Animal in the Show. THE TREVENA PERPETUAL CUP A Silver Perpetual Cup, for the Reserve Champion Dairy Animal in the Show. THE JACK BOTTRELL MEMORIAL CUP A Perpetual Silver Challenge Cup donated by Mrs. H. Bottrell for the Champion Beef Animal in the Show. THE ROSARY CUP A Silver Perpetual Cup given by a member for the Reserve Champion Beef Animal in the Show. ROYAL CORNWALL AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATION NEW SUMMER SHOW POINTS CHAMPIONSHIP Stithians Show is one of five (Camborne, Camelford, Launceston, Liskeard and Stithians) at which points will be offered towards prizes of: 1st £100 2nd £50 This will be in both the open cattle and sheep classes for exhibitors gaining the most points over the 2019 Cornish summer show season. Points to be awarded: 1st - 3 points 2nd - 2 points 3rd - 1 point All exhibits must be entered under the same names at the relevant shows to be eligible. Any exhibitor wishing to enter a protest must do so in writing to the Secretary of the Sheep Section, accompanied by a deposit of one pound (£1) (in accordance with Rules 12 and 13 of the Association Rule Book). If on investigation the protest is not sustained, the sum deposited may be forfeited to the funds of the Association. In the case of any protest whereby any Prize animal becomes disqualified, the winner of the next succeeding prize in the class should take the prize awarded to the disqualified animal and the lowest shall go to the reserve number. No protest will be considered by the Committee until all the Sheep in the class concerned have left the ring. No protest can be received after the conclusion of the Show. 12. The Judges Decision is Final. 13. The Association reserves the right to publish names and addresses of all exhibitors in any competitive competition. 14. Exhibitors are responsible for getting to Judging Rings. Please indicate on Entry Form if M.V. accredited Exhibitors of Maedi Visna Accredited sheep must show to the Show Officials a SAC valid Certificate of status before unloading. If not, the sheep will be accommodated in the non-attested Section and no claim may be made against the Association for re-testing. All Sheep will be subject to dipping regulations if applicable. Tail docking, sufficient tail must be retained to cover the vulva in the case of a female and the anus of a male sheep. If any sheep are found with very short docking, a prosecution could arise.

Stithians Agricultural Association Ltd Company registered in England 7585178 Charity No. 1141715 Health and Safety Policy Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 GENERAL STATEMENT OF POLICY We commit to operating the Association in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and all applicable legislation made under the Act ‘So far as is reasonably practicable’. Our policy is to ensure that the Show is operated in a safe manner for all our employees, volunteers and the general public, and to provide such information, training and supervision as is needed for this purpose. We also accept our responsibility for the health and safety of other people who may be affected by our activities. The Association acknowledges that the Show is likely to attract those who may be vulnerable and will consider them in their risk assessment of the event. The Board of Trustees acknowledge that Health and Safety responsibilities within the Association are of equal importance as other priorities and will ensure resources are available to manage health and safety. Although the Board of Trustees accept responsibility for the implementation of the policy, it relies on individual employees/volunteers to accept their own duty and responsibility to themselves, fellow workers and others who might be injured/affected by their acts or omissions. The Board of Trustees have nominated the Chairman and a representative from the Showyard Directors as signatories of the Health and Safety Policy. A signed copy of the full Health and Safety Policy Statement and a copy of the Show’s organisational chart is available from the Show Office. The policy will be kept up to date, and appropriate to the Association’s activities. To ensure this, the policy will be monitored and reviewed every year or more frequently if required. SAFETY INFORMATION AND GUIDANCE All Exhibitors must comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and all relevant legislation and guidance. Animal exhibitors must also comply with the Animal Welfare Act 2018 and any relevant codes of practice, guidance, etc., provided by the relevant governing body organisations. Further safety information is contained within the Stithians Show Health and Safety Manual which is made available to those exhibiting at the Show. SHOW SECURITY The Association’s appointed security contractor will provide night cover between 19:00 and 07:00 from the Monday before the Show and then 24/7 from 07:00 on the Sunday until 07:00 on the Tuesday after the Show. The Showground is large, with multiple entrances and the security officials cannot be in all areas, at all times. The Association will not be responsible for the safe custody of any article brought for exhibition, nor will they be liable for any loss or damage that may occur to any article. FIRE SAFETY All catering outlets or trade stands must assess the risk of fire and provide fire prevention equipment where any potential ignition sources are present. BBQs are not permitted on the Showground. FIRST AID/MEDICAL If you are setting up prior to the Sunday of the Show or packing up after the Monday you are advised to ensure you have a first aid kit available. On Show day the Association’s First Aid contractor will be on site. The nearest A & E Department is at The Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske, Truro TR1 3LQ. Minor Injury Units are located at Camborne Redruth Community Hospital, Barncoose, Redruth, TR15 3ER and Falmouth Hospital, Trescobeas Road, Falmouth, TR11 2JA; both of which require you to contact NHS 111 by phone or online prior to visiting. All accidents/incidents and near misses must be reported to the Show’s Health and Safety Adviser who is contactable by radio or via the Show Office. GAS SAFETY Any fixed installation gas equipment (cookers, pipework, valves etc.) must comply with the provisions of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998. All catering vans / marquees with gas installation MUST have a Gas Safety Certificate issued by a competent Gas Safe Engineer and dated within the last 12 months. A copy of the certificate MUST BE provided to the organisers prior to entry to the event. Crimped connection fittings must be used rather than jubilee clips. Further information can be found on the Nationwide Caterers Association website The Gas Safety Checklist - The Do’s and Don’ts - NCASS ELECTRICAL SUPPLY Legislation requires electrical equipment to be maintained in good condition and for it to be suitable for the environment in which it is to be used. All portable electrical equipment brought onto the Showground must be maintained in good condition and where required evidence of portable appliance testing must be made available to our Officers. The Show reserves the right to remove from use any equipment that they deem to be unsafe. Further information is available from the HSE website https://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/books/ hsg107.htm DIESEL AND LPG GENERATORS The use of diesel and LPG generators is permitted provided modern, quiet equipment is used. Stand-alone petrol generators are not permitted. Petrol generators that are professionally built in as part of an operating unit may be used. The Association reserves the right to request any generator that is unsafe or causing a nuisance from fumes be switched off and removed. SHOWGROUND TRAFFIC All Showground traffic must give priority to pedestrians and riders and strictly observe speed restrictions at times when such movement is permitted. The speed limit on site is 10 mph. During the Show all Showground roadways must be kept clear of any obstruction to allow unimpeded access by emergency vehicles. There is no unauthorised vehicle movement permitted between the hours of 09:00 and 18:00. Livestock exhibitors: may leave the Showground prior to 18:00 hours, subject to the approval of a Showyard Director and notification to the Section Secretary (where movement is to enable compliance with Animal Welfare Regulations). The Livestock dispersal will be strictly controlled. OPENING HOURS Trade and Craft Stand Exhibitors are required to remain open until 18:00 and MUST NOT attempt to leave the Showground before that time. Those found to be packing up early and attempting to leave the Showground may find that their application is refused for future shows. MAJOR INCIDENT PLANNING (SITE EVACUATION) In the event of a major incident where it is necessary to evacuate the site or part of the site, please follow all signs and instructions from the organisers and Emergency Services. ALL people will be requested to evacuate the site, until it is deemed safe to return. The Association accepts no responsibility for any property or livestock or any person or persons who fail to comply with the request to evacuate the Showground. (Animal Escape) Animals are unpredictable and do occasionally break free. Please get yourself and others under your control to safety in a quiet and calm manner and allow those involved in the recapture to do this unimpeded. PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE Whilst the Association has its public liability cover in place it is only for its own protection. All exhibitors must have their own public liability insurance which covers them for attendance at the Stithians Show.
