WELCOME Barbara Gilbert Bowls Victoria President Bowls Victoria welcomes and congratulates all Region Winners who have progressed to the 2018 State Champions Week. You should all be very proud of this achievement alone. This week is a fantastic showcase of our sport and we all look forward to following your progress. It is brilliant that our State event title winner, both male and female, of the Champion of Champions Singles can progress to a World Title, and the Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours progress to a National Title. We currently hold the National Champion of State Singles Champions for Women title, held by Kylie Whitehead. We congratulate Kylie on this wonderful achievement. Who will represent the State at this year’s National Titles? Everyone has their chance here this week. Bowls Victoria wishes to acknowledge and appreciates the continued support of the Bendigo East Bowling Club and the City of Greater Bendigo. Both entities are an integral component to ensuring the continued success of this week of Championship bowling. We are pleased that each year the number of supporters coming to this event increases and the buzz around Bendigo East Bowls Club is amazing. Events do not just happen and we thank all Volunteers, Technical Officials and the Staff at Bowls Victoria for the assistance provided. Good luck and fantastic bowling to all! What is MOVE with Bowls? MOVE with Bowls is a three-year partnership between Bowls Victoria and Arthritis and Osteoporosis Victoria to encourage current and future bowlers to stay fit, healthy and enjoying the great game of bowls. For more information Please phone 03 8531 8000 or email karen.livingstone@move.org.au 2 STATE CHAMPIONS WEEK 2018
Cr Margaret O’Rourke Mayor, City of Greater Bendigo On behalf of the City of Greater Bendigo I would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone who has travelled here to participate in the Bowls Victoria 2018 State Champions Week. The game of bowls has a long history in Bendigo, since the first game was played here at the Bendigo Bowls Club in the 1860s. Gold was discovered in Bendigo in 1851 and bowls was one of the earliest games to be established, played and enjoyed in this city. Bowls is a popular competitive sport in our city and with such a range of clubs it’s little wonder that our region produces such quality bowlers. Bendigo welcomes events like the State Champions Week because it’s great for our local economy and great for our community. Bendigo is a warm and welcoming city and I hope that you take full advantage of our many attractions and facilities during your time here. I wish everyone the best of luck for what I’m sure will be a great competition. Jack Clough Bendigo East Bowling Club Vice President We would like to thank Bowls Victoria for allowing us to host the State Champions for 2018. The Bendigo East Bowling Club has once again been chosen to host this prestigious event and believe me, we feel extremely proud to do so. Our club works hard to ensure that we have both excellent playing and viewing facilities. I wish to thank our working committees and our members who make this happen, as without their hard work this would not be possible. We will ensure to make this week enjoyable, not only for the many bowlers competing but also for the many visitors who travel from all over Victoria to watch their favourites bowl in this highly prestigious event. To our many visitors I hope that you will also, while in Bendigo take the opportunity to get out and about and see Bendigo, as there is plenty to see and enjoy in our beautiful city. We wish all the bowlers good luck and most importantly that they enjoy the game and company both on and off the green. STATE CHAMPIONS WEEK 2018 3
