Sharing from HKBU students (Fall Semester 2018 cohort) The overall application process was tough. I was surprised that I finally made it! I expect this will be a life-changing semester that equips me to become an individual with entrepreneurship spirit by gaining professional knowledge from a group of world-leading faculty members at UC Berkeley and seasoned entrepreneurs at Silicon Valley. The biggest challenge to me should be always speaking up my idea in front of geniuses around the world. Miss Eve, LIU Yi-Hsuan Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) (Entrepreneurship Concentration), School of Business Upon receiving this offer, I was ecstatic because this is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Studying at UCB, I think I will experience a new culture and meet people from all walks of life so as to broaden my social network. As a science student, entrepreneurship is something new to me. But I am sure it can be resolved if I am working hard for it. I will try my best to adapt to a new culture and overcome the culture shock. Miss Jane, TING Jiat Yin BSc(Hons) in Applied Biology (Environmental Science Concentration), Faculty of Science I am very fortunate to be chosen as one of the representatives. It is exciting that we will explore the successful startup companies and the latest technology in the Bay Area. Studying abroad for one semester could definitely enhance my knowledge of entrepreneurship and cultivate my independence. It would be challenging to immerse myself in a different culture but I am ready to take this challenge! Miss Joyce, TSANG Hoi Ting Bachelor of Communication (Hons) in Public Relations and Advertising, School of Communication When I received this offer, I could not imagine that I will live in another place for several months without my family and friends. However, it motivates me to get well-prepared to overcome all challenges. I am expecting to experience different cultures, and to learn how to interact with people from various backgrounds. Mr Steve, YIP Kin Hei BSocSc (Hons) in Geography, Faculty of Social Sciences 12
When I received the offer, I felt extremely excited because I was eager to gain this opportunity, in particular, under a keen competition among a group of outstanding candidates. I join this programme because I want to improve my sense of entrepreneurship and innovation and obtain solid knowledge of business in order to learn how to start a company and become a successful businessman. Also, studying in a global environment will force me to be open-minded to accept different views and ideas. Although I did not study some courses such as big data analysis and technology before, I will try my best to overcome it. Miss Jenny, LI Jieni BSocSc (Hons) in China Studies (Economic Concentration), Faculty of Social Sciences I am very grateful to the Knowledge Transfer Office and the donors for giving us this opportunity. As a co-founder of the company ViewR 360, I will gain an extremely valuable experience that will be useful for designing the company’s future development in a very stimulating environment. Studying near the Silicon Valley, it will also increase my interest in being a researcher in the emerging XR technologies (Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality). Mr Giovanni SANTINI Ph.D. in Music Composition, Faculty of Arts When I received the email, I was so thrilled because I believe it will be an excellent adventure about to begin. I am looking forward to immersing myself in a new environment with cultural diversity where everyone dares to make a breakthrough. As a foreigner, I may encounter difficulties in discussing with classmates with different views, and finding out a mutual agreement at the end. But I believe that all these experiences will become a treasure for me at the end of the journey. Miss Sharon, HU Xinlin Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Visual Arts, Academy of Visual Arts 13
