Victorian Cricket & Community Centre (VCCC) The purpose-built facility will consolidate Cricket Victoria's administration and training functions into a single location, as well as providing a boutique-sized alternate first-class venue for Cricket Victoria. This will provide the sport with its first dedicated training and development facility. The Junction Oval site will not be used during the 2016/17 cricket season whilst the full Victorian Cricket & Community Centre project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2017.
Ground renovation New ICC compliant oval which includes widening on the east and west and shortening at the northern end to accommodate the new training / administration building within the lease line. Oval will totally renovated to include new irrigation and drainage. Oval has been raised to achieve compliance with disability access requirements around the oval. Over 20,000m2 of washed Santa Ana turf to be procured for the oval.
Ground renovation - continued Merri Creek soil is being procured for the northern practice wickets whilst the existing Merri Creek soil will be retained and re-used on the main oval. 12 centre wickets will be created on the main oval. The media areas within the main building will look directly south towards the new wicket blocks. Southern practice wickets retained and renovated. 16 practice wickets through the establishment of a new outdoor training wickets adjacent to the main high performance training building.
Cockram Construction has been working closely with Cox Architecture and the design team for several months on the design plans and is ready to hit the ground running.
The Cockram team has experience in similar projects including the MCG Digital Stadium, Western Australian Institute of Sport, Blacktown Cricket/AFL Stadium and the Camberwell Grammar School New Sports Complex project.
Over the next few months, the Cockram team will undertake demolition activities including removal of the RL Morton and tennis club pavilions at the northern end of the oval which will make way for the new three storey training and administration building. These works will also include the removal of selected trees from within the site to allow construction activities to take place. A tree replacement program has been approved by Parks Victoria to ensure the canopy at Junction Oval will be rejuvenated in the years to come.
