Page Three Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord April 17, 2022 ...from Fr. Gerard We are witnesses of all that he did HAPPY EASTER! We made it! The long days of Lent are over! A tedious winter has passed. ALLELUIA! Jesus Christ is truly risen! Today we celebrate the Good News that gives the reason for our hope each day of our lives. Easter is the answer to every prayer, the reward for patient faith and the glory that is greater than every sorrow. In the words of St. Peter, we celebrate today because “we are witnesses of all that he did.” As we celebrate this great feast, we are called to not simply retell an old story. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is lived anew time and time again. How often have we seen the overwhelming responses to a natural disaster or some other tragedy, transforming a devastating event to a profound example of the resurrection? In these moments, unimaginable sorrows are met with not only financial resources but compassionate people of faith whose solidarity with the victims brings comfort and hope for new life. There are everyday examples, too, which are witnessed by fewer but are just as significant. What new life have you witnessed in this past year? How has, what was otherwise devastating, been transformed by the actions of another? When was your mourning turned to joy? The celebration of Easter is authentic when we can proclaim what we have witnessed. We have witnessed a long winter give way to warm spring days, our Lenten sacrifices have strengthened our faith, and Jesus Christ is risen from the dead, yesterday, today, and forever. We are witnesses, we celebrate, and we believe that death and all the sorrows that we experience have no power over the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, who died that we might live. We cannot help but be mindful of the ongoing war in Ukraine this Easter. The resurrection I selected for this week’s bulletin is an icon depicting the primary Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Easter image. It is referred to as Christ’s Descent into Hades showing that Christ enters and conquers Hell and death. On this Easter, we pray that this image may be lived anew, that the resurrected Christ may reach into the depths of the hellish and deadly experiences of death that are happening in Ukraine and in many other war-torn areas of our world. WELCOME - I am grateful for the opportunity to express greetings to all who join us today. Every person who celebrates the Lord’s resurrection is not only welcomed as Christ— but shares in the joyful spirit of this day. God has called each person here today for a reason, and we hope that in sharing Easter joy with us, you may know His love for you. We hope that His love for each of us as individuals and families may be a source of encouragement to all of us who seek to belong more deeply to Christ and His church. We are blessed by the opportunity to be with so many, and hope that all may always feel welcome and wanted at St. Rose. THANK YOU - The liturgies of Holy Week are the central worship experiences of the church year. I am so very grateful to the many whose dedicated service provides us with such beautiful celebrations of these sacred mysteries. On behalf of the entire parish, I thank our Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers, Ushers, Servers, Sacristans, Vocalists, Musicians and Parish Staff for the time, talent, and faithful service they have given this week. Last year, on the day after Easter, I received a call informing me that Bishop Barres was appointing me to serve as the pastor of St. Rose of Lima. The year since has been an experience of dying to the old and rising anew, and I am grateful for it and happy to celebrate my first Easter with all of you. Peace, Follow Fr. Gerard at twitter.com/frgerardinny

REJOICE in the Resurrection of our Savior! We’re In Need of Gift Cards! As part of our pantry program, we offer (when available) supermarket gift cards to our pantry guests to pick up fresh items that we might not have in our pantry. Lately, we’ve been running low. Could you be so kind as to think about donating some Supermarket Gift Cards this week? Get them at your local supermarket, or better yet at the Rectory! In addition, due to the high cost of gas, gas gift cards are greatly appreciated as they help our families get to work or doctor appointments. We are grateful for any donations you can provide. THANK YOU! We’d like to thank the entire parish community - your overwhelming support has been incredible. Throughout the pandemic you have kept our shelves well-stocked. Please keep the donations flowing...our guests are extremely thankful. We never fail to be amazed at your tremendous generosity. Easter Closures Outreach will be closed Easter Monday. Regular Hours will resume on Tuesday, April 18th. Keep in touch! Have a question or an idea? Don’t hesitate to reach out to us, we’re here to help. Page Thirteen Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord April 17, 2022 DIVINE MERCY Sunday Sunday, April 24, 2022 at 3:00 pm Jesus told St. Faustina that this Feast of Mercy would be a special day when “all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened.” Our Lord made a great promise to all those souls who would go to Confession and then receive Him in Holy Communion on the Feast of His Mercy, now called Divine Mercy Sunday. The Image of The Divine Mercy, which Our Lord requested to be solemnly blessed and venerated on this day, will be on display in our church. Pope John Paul II said that the image portrays the Risen Jesus Christ bringing Mercy to the whole world. Our Lord said “I want the image to be solemnly blessed on the first Sunday after Easter, and I want it to be venerated publicly so that every soul may know about it. I promise that the soul that will venerate this image will not perish.” Please take time to visit with this Image of The Divine Mercy. Join us in the Church for a Holy Hour Sunday, April 24 Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet 3:00 - 4:00 pm Livestreamed Jesus said to St. Faustina, "I am offering people a vessel with which they are to keep coming for graces to the fountain of mercy. That vessel is this image with the signature: Jesus, I trust in You. The two rays denote Blood and Water. The pale ray stands for the Water which makes souls righteous. The red ray stands for the Blood which is the life of souls. These two rays issued forth from the very depths of My tender mercy when My agonized Heart was opened by a lance on the cross. …Happy is the one who will dwell in their shelter, for the just hand of God shall not lay hold of him.”
Page Fourteen Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord April 17, 2022 Happenings at the Family Mass! St. Rose of Lima celebrates its Family Mass each Sunday at 10 am. Through our efforts, we hope to develop a true sense of community here in our parish. Upcoming Family Mass Activity Here’s what’s coming up for the St. Rose of Lima Family Mass: April 24, 2022 – Easter Resurrection Bunny Breakfast – after the 10 am Family Mass - in the Auditorium The Easter season does not end on Easter Sunday. Join us on the 2nd Sunday of Easter for a “Bunny Breakfast” as we do our best to extend the rejoicing. We’ll be in the Auditorium following the 10am Family Mass. There’ll be some light breakfast treats as well as some Easter activities for the children including an Easter Egg Hunt. If you wish to help out with the refreshments, a treat for our share table would be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions about the Family Liturgy Committee, call or e-mail Matt and Kelly Baroletti (798-6026, mbaroletti@verizon.net). Do you have some time that you would be able to share with our faith community here at St. Rose of Lima? Here are two Ministries that could use your help! Baptism Host Volunteers—contact the rectory at 798-4992 The goal of our Baptism ‘Host’ volunteers is to welcome the newest members of our Christian Community into our faith family here at St. Rose, and assist the families and our priests and deacons during the celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism. Time requirement is minimal, and training is provided. Family Liturgy Committee—contact Matt & Kelly Baroletti at 798-6026 St. Rose celebrates a Family Mass each Sunday at 10:00 am. The Family Liturgy Committee meets monthly to plan Liturgies which include the whole family, especially those with young children. Their goal is to help provide an atmosphere where faith can be shared, developed and renewed, with a sense of joy and celebration for all. No special experience needed, just a desire to grow in faith, a willingness to give your time and talent, and the spirit to work with others.
