MASS TIMES Dear Friends, Monday through Friday Once again, in the Scripture readings we see the incredible 6:30 a.m. & 12:05 p.m. mercy of Jesus and His willingness to forgive people, no mat- ter what. Jesus treats us in the same way. Just like the woman Saturday caught in adultery, Jesus does not wish to condemn us when 8:30 a.m. we do something wrong, but rather wishes us to return to Him Saturday Vigil Mass and be reconciled to Him. 4:30 p.m. This is what our Lenten journey has been all about. We are to remind ourselves each day, and experience it as well, that Sundays God’s mercy is unconditional. We are always given another 6:30 a.m. * 8:00 a.m. chance to return to the Lord and return to true life and happiness. 9:30 a.m. * 11:00 a.m. This Tuesday evening, April 9, at 7:00 p.m., we will have several visiting priests 1:00 p.m. Spanish joining us for our Lenten celebration of the Sacrament of Penance. Through the 6:00 p.m. Scriptures, through an Examination of Conscience, and through our own prayer, we will ready ourselves to tell Jesus that we are sorry, that we wish to amend our Sacrament of Penance lives, and by means of the words of Absolution will be reconciled once again with Saturdays 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. the Lord and with each other. I encourage everyone to participate in this tremendous sacrament of God’s mer- DEVOTIONS cy. May we grow closer to Christ each day as we continue to journey with Him to Eucharistic Adoration His Cross and His Resurrection. Thursdays 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. God bless you. Fridays 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Father Fred (First Fridays all night) Saturdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. "The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who Saturdays had been caught in adultery and made her stand in 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. the middle." The episode of the woman caught in Fatima Devotion: First Saturday adultery is a powerful story. We have perhaps all felt as the woman has at some point in our lives, sur- Hispanic Holy Hour: Other Saturdays rounded by those who would condemn us. The beauty Our Lady of Perpetual Help of Christ's mercy at the end is clear, and a welcome Saturdays 9:00 a.m. relief as we all struggle to be good and holy people. (at the end of 8:30 Mass) But have we ever imagined ourselves on the edge of the circle? Have we pictured ourselves in the sea of dusty robes? Perhaps, we hope, we're hovering at the PARISH OFFICE edge of the circle of judgment. But we've all been there. How easy it is to be righteous when someone else's reputation is at stake. When 2051 Mt. Diablo Blvd. the small child is acting up in the grocery store or on the plane. When another Walnut Creek, CA 94596 company has a scandal break or a major error sets back their profits. Could it be easy to pick up the stone and feel its weight and heft in our hands? Because if OFFICE HOURS we've got a stone in our hands, our own righteous category is clear. Our judgment 8:30 A.M. TO 4:30 P.M. is our insurance that we won't be on the receiving end of the criticism. If we can Monday through Friday point out a wrong, surely we are firmly in the right. "'Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her... SECOND COLLECTIONS they went away one by one." This Lent, not only are we invited to receive God's mercy, but to show God's mercy. As the season begins to wind to a close, consid- er those in your life you tend to judge the most harshly. Copyright (c) J. S.
