St. Bartholomew School 470 Ryders Lane East Brunswick, NJ 08816 Tel. 732-254-7105 Fax. 732-254-6352 school.stbartseb.com Reverend Thomas J. Walsh, M.Div. Mrs. Ann Wierzbicki, R.N., M.A.E./Ed.S. Pastor Principal _____________________________________________________________________________________________ November 1, 2020 Dear Parents and Guardians, Happy All Saints’ Day! Today is a holy day of the Catholic Church dedicated to the saints of the Church. St. Bartholomew School has been exceptionally blessed with a safe return to school. We have always used an abundance of caution in all the decisions made regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. The safety and health of our students and staff is paramount in all that we do. At the end of the month, we celebrate Thanksgiving. We are aware that our families may be exposed to more people during the holiday, so we have created a plan to keep our students and staff safe. St. Bartholomew School will dismiss at 11:30 am on Wednesday, November 25 and will be closed on November 26 and 27. For the Thanksgiving holiday. There will be no After School Care on November 25. The Office of Schools at the Diocese of Metuchen has told us that the week after Thanksgiving, November 30-December 4, will be a fully virtual week for our students and staff. Classes will be conducted by our teachers through our virtual platform. Please send your children to school with a tote bag on November 25 so that all books and supplies may be brought home for virtual learning. Additionally, as recognition of our success with our re-accreditation, Bishop Checchio is giving the schools a Bishop’s holiday on December 7 and December 8 is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, so school will be closed on December 7 and 8. We will return to school on December 9. We are being proactive in order to keep our students and staff healthy and safe and feel this initiative meets these mandates while we continue to provide a quality Catholic education. We are participating in a Coat Drive for Elijah’s Promise. There is an extreme shortage of children’s and adult’s winter jackets. We are also accepting hats, gloves, scarves, sweatshirts, blankets, and sleeping bags. Please tie donations in a plastic bag. Your generous donations will be collected through December 18. Individual photos will be taken on November 11 and 12. Please see the website for details. Dear God, thank you for the example of the Saints. I desire to join in their company, worshiping you forever in Heaven. Please help me follow their footsteps, and yours, Jesus Christ. Please help me to conform myself to Your image, seeking Your will in all things, as the Saints did. Please help me to devote myself, and all that I do, to Your glory, and to the service of my neighbors. Amen. God bless you, Mrs. Ann Wierzbicki, R.N., M.A.E./Ed.S. Principal The mission of St. Bartholomew School is to love, educate and inspire our children to live the teachings of Jesus Christ.

ST. BARTHOLOMEW HSA’s Saint Michael the Archangel is not a saint, but rather he is an angel, and the leader of all angels and of the army of God. This is what the title "Archangel" means, that he is above all the others in rank. Saint Michael has four main responsibilities or offices, as we know from Scripture and Christian tradition. • The first is to combat Satan. • The second is to escort the faithful to heaven at their hour of death. • The third is to be a champion of all Christians, and the Church itself. • And the fourth is to call men from life on Earth to their heavenly judgment. Very little is known about Saint Michael other than what we know from Scriptures, which is sparse. In Daniel (Chapter 10), St. Michael is mentioned twice, the first time as one who helped Daniel. The second time (Chapter 12) with regard to the end times of the world when he will stand for the "children of thy people." His next mention comes in the Epistle of St. Jude (Verse 9), where St. Michael is said to guard the tombs of Moses and Eve and has contended with Satan over the body of Moses. The final mention is in Revelation (Chapter 12), where St. Michael and his angels battle with the wicked angels under Lucifer and drives them out of Heaven. There are other Scriptures where Saint Michael is implied, but not mentioned by name, such as the angel who defends the gate to Paradise, who defends against Balaam, and "who routed the army of Sennacherib." Today, Saint Michael is invoked for protection, especially from lethal enemies. He is also the patron of soldiers, police, and doctors. Saint Michael the Archangel is referenced in the Old Testament and has been part of Christian teachings since the earliest times.[1] In Catholic writings and traditions, he acts as the defender of the Church and chief opponent of Satan and assists people at the hour of death. The Prayer to Saint Michael reads: "Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly hosts, by the power of God, cast into Hell Satan, and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world, seeking the ruin of souls. Amen." 1 Kelly, John Norman. Early Christian Doctrines Continuum Publishing, 2000 ISBN 0-8264-5252-3 p. 7. 2 "EWTN Global Catholic Television Network: Catholic News, TV, Radio | EWTN".
