From the Pastor’s Desk A.M.D.G. Dear Parishioners, As the society reopens, it is good to remember who and whose we are, where we are and where we are going, and how we are going to get there. Ours is a very specific role. Like Amos, we are called “to prophesy to God’s people” that is “to hear what God proclaims; the Lord – for he proclaims peace. Near indeed is his salvation to those who fear him, glory dwelling in our land.” Since we belong to the Lord by baptism, we prophesy peace, and we practice it with adoration and confession sev- en days a week. Before Vatican II this time was not called “Ordinary,” but was known as the Sun- days After Pentecost. Granted that after Jesus’ Passion, Death, Resurrection and Ascension, it was and is a new creation, a new rule, a new normal, yet calling this reality by its origin makes it come alive! “Praised be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavens.” The Holy Spirit we received “is the first installment of our inheritance toward redemption as God’s possession, to the praise of his glory.” We, no less than the Twelve, have been given the authority and the responsibility to preach repentance, a renunciation of the unholy “me, my- self and I” ideology that prevails, starting with ourselves! Come to adoration after the 8 AM daily Mass, or from 6 PM to 7 PM every night. Leave every sin that clings so closely and weighs you down at the cross in confession, and claim your true identity as a beloved child of God. Then go set your life on fire with God’s love. That’s what St. Anthony means by bringing the day of Pentecost to fulfillment! God bless you all ways and always! Peace, Fr. Fred

The Twelve Apostles - Peter, James, John, Andrew, Bartholomew, James the Younger, Matthias, Jude, Matthew, Philip, Simon, and Thomas - were the first men Jesus chose to follow Him. You would think they were the smartest, richest, most important men around, wouldn’t you? Wrong! They were ordinary people, like you and me. Jesus chose them because He wanted to show the world what amazing things ordinary people could do, if they believed in Him. He has a special job for each one of us. In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus tells the Twelve to go out into the world, two by two (who do you think went with whom?) and tell everyone about Him. He ordered them to take nothing along with them but a walking stick—no food, no backpack, no money. They couldn’t even bring more than one shirt! That doesn’t sound like a lot of fun, does it? The Twelve knew it would be hard, and that they would get into trouble, but they were happy to do it because they loved Jesus so much and He had asked them to. You don’t have to leave home or give away everything you own to spread the good news about Jesus. Your job right now is to grow up learning to love God more and more every day, and to be as kind as you can to your friends and family for His sake. When people see how happy Jesus makes you, they’ll want to know Him too. That’s what you can do for God, starting today—and you can keep all your shirts!
