3rd/4th Year Information Evening Exam Subject ART AND DESIGN Subject Leader Mr S Roderick Exam Specification AQA ART AND DESIGN – FINE ART OR PHOTOGRAPHY What resources are important for this subject e.g. websites/textbooks? Most pupils will already have a GCSE Art pack and a good range of materials to complete the coursework component (60% of the final exam). Pupils also find that a ‘Pinterest’ account is an invaluable source of visual information and ideas. What advice can you give to ensure students do well in this subject? Pupils need to aim to work ahead of deadlines, thus allowing more time to improve work and improve subsequently grades. Pupils should look at previous pupils’ work and sketchbooks. Pupils should seek advice from older boys (working a lunch time each week in the Art room is a good opportunity for this). Pupils need to be proactive in asking “how do I improve this?”

Ensure Live production notes are kept on each production seen. Increase the level of detailed in description, analysis and evaluation of individual moments in live production notes. Prepare for final practical assessment by reading and researching plays Ensure lines are learnt as early as possible. Purchase and read AQA GCSE text book (can be resold to next year’s GCSE students)

Recommended is the Hodder textbook with the timber, plastic and metals focus for the Specialist Technical Principles. We can purchase these with a 20% discount through the department. What advice can you give to ensure students do well in this subject? Use the knowledge trackers provided by the DT department alongside the AQA specification to focus learning and self-study. Using the specification to focus revision topics is essential to achieve grades 7 – 9. Treat the NEA as an iterative design and make process and not linear. Research and evaluations should be evident throughout the project, not only carried out at the beginning of a project and evaluations at the end.
