Letter from the Director Dear Friends, We have lived through another unpredictable year with a pandemic that has altered the way we go about our normal lives. Fortunately, our department continues to offer the community tremendous outlets to enjoy life with our parks, programs, and events. In 2021, we filled a record amount of classes and experienced incredible community spirit at our Highland Farm Rocktoberfest. Our Old Fashioned Holiday at Tilley Pond Park and the Tree Lighting in Don Anderson, Chief of Police & Darien Sport Shop Tree Lighting partnership with the Darien Sports Shop was another tremendous success. A huge kudos to our Pamela Gery at Weed Beach Fest! Recreation andSunday, December Parks maintenance, 1st administration, and office staff who have remained highly motivated and take great pride in all that they do to serve you and your family - if you see any of them out in the parks please do recognize their hard work. Parks & Recreation Administrative Updates We were surprised with many department changes this year! Jeanne Foulds, our Office Administrator, retired after working for the Town of Darien for over 30 years! She was a hard-working, dedicated employee who will surely be missed. She witnessed this department go through many positive changes over the years and can attest to the many ways that Parks & Recreation can strengthen community enthusiasm. She was a big part of our success and we wish her nothing but the best. Jeanne’s successful path opened the door for welcoming Tamara Eberhardt as our new Office Administrator. Tamara has worked for the Town for four years in the Public Works and the Planning & Zoning Departments and is a perfect fit for our department. She values the type of work that we do and we are confident she will do a great job serving the town! Last, but certainly not least, Jim Flynn, our Supervisor of Parks Maintenance, is retiring after 13 years on the job. He played a crucial role in bringing our athletic fields and parks up to a higher standard than ever before and passionately mentored the crew he supervised. His leadership, attention to detail, and quick-to-respond attitude was admired throughout the town. Jim, thank you for grooming the hard-working crew that we have; you will be greatly missed by all. As always, we hope that you fill your calendar with several programs, activities, and events from this Spring & Summer Brochure. Our staff tries to offer a wide variety of things to choose from. However, if there is something that you don’t come across that you would like us to offer, please don’t hesitate to contact us! Warm regards, Pamela Gery 2021 HIGHLIGHTS!
