Welcome to the Vis East and to Hong Kong! This guide contains all the information you need to know in order not to miss out on any of the social events during the Moot week in Hong Kong. For the sake of convenience, we have also included in this guide all relevant official Moot events. For details or latest changes, please refer to the MAA’s social media outlets: Facebook; LinkedIn; Instagram; Twitter. Members of the MAA’s core team will be present during the entire Moot week and will do their best to make sure you have a great time after months of intense preparation and anticipation. Should you have any questions or need help, please don’t hesitate to contact us at info@maa.net or any of our social media outlets. We will get back to you as soon as possible. Please note that you are required to carry a valid ID / passport with you during your entire stay in Hong Kong, especially when going to a bar or club. If you wish to officially register as a new MAA member and take advantage of all the benefits, please visit our website. 13th Annual Generations in Arbitration Conference SUNDAY, 31 MARCH 2019, 9:00 AM – 4:15 PM What: A staple of the Vis Moot, this arbitration conference kicks off the Vis week with distinguished international speakers addressing "hot topics" in international arbitration and commercial law. This year’s GIA theme is: Innovation and Arbitration - Challenge accepted or Opportunities missed? The MAA Welcome Party WHEN: SATURDAY, 30 MARCH 2019, 9 PM ONWARDS What: The first social event of the Vis Week where you will get an opportunity to meet with other teams as well as arbitrators before the competition begins! The MAA has exclusive access to FoFo’s rooftop, which is located in the middle of Lan Kwai Fong, Hong Kong’s No. 1 place to party. Antique Open Deck Party Tram Tour WHEN: WEDNESDAY, 3 APRIL 2019, 6.30 PM What: Start your night on one of Hong Kong’s antique open-deck trams! Join us for this unique experience and enjoy a breath-taking ride through the streets of Hong Kong. Please bring your own drinks. The tram will drop us next to Happy Valley, where we will continue our adventure and watch the Horse Races (see next page). Where: Meet at the Whitty Street Tram Depot, Hill Road Entrance/ Connaught Road West (Hong Kong Island). Please arrive 20 minutes early as the trams will depart exactly at 6:30pm. Shatin Horse Races WHEN: WEDNESDAY, 3 APRIL 2019, 7 PM What: After months of preparation for a case involving the equestrian culture, no attraction would be better than a proper horse race. One of Hong Kong’s finest attractions and a must-see for every visitor are the night time races at Shatin, the sister racecourse to Happy Valley. It is a unique experience and one that is truly "Hong Kong". When: Wednesday, 3 April 2019, starting around 7 pm. The last race usually takes place around 10 pm – we will head straight to the Moot bar afterwards! Where: Shatin Racecourse, Shatin, New Territories. How to get there: Take the MTR, East Rail Line and get off at “Racecourse” (available only on racing days). The Shatin Racecourse is only 2 stops from Kowloon Tong! If you are on the MAA Antique Open-Deck Party Tram, you will need to make your way over to the Shatin Racecourse following the tour. Elimination Rounds WHEN: FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, 5 AND 6 APRIL 2019 What: The top 32 teams face off in the Elimination Rounds! Details of the elimination rounds will be available only after the announcements and updated following each round. Sunset Lamma Island Seafood Dinner WHEN: SATURDAY, 6 APRIL 2019, 5:15 PM What: Discover one of Hong Kong’s traditional fishing village and its delicious fresh seafood! Be prepared for the table-singing challenge and a great evening full of authentic food, good company and laughter. Where: Meet at Central Pier 9. The Rainbow Restaurant ferries will take you to the Rainbow. Restaurant on Lamma Island (see official instructions for details). How to get there: MTR "Hong Kong", follow the signs toward "Ferry Piers". Registration and Costs: Advance Purchase Required: HKD 375 at the Vis Centre. MAA Farewel Party WHEN: SATURDAY, 6 APRIL 2019, FROM 10 PM ONWARDS What: The last chance to celebrate with your fellow Mooties in style at one of Hong Kong’s hottest nightclubs. The MAA has exclusive access until 12 am and special drink vouchers for discounts all night long! Where: PLAY, 1/F, On Hing Building, 1 On Hing Terrace (LKF) How to get there: MTR “Central”, Exit D2. The MAA will lead everyone from Central Pier after the Seafood Dinner. For the Taxi: 安慶⼤廈, 安慶台1號 Costs: HKD 160 per person inclusive of VIP admission and two drink tickets. Additional drink vouchers at HKD 80 can be purchased. CASH ONLY. Dress Code: No flip-flops, shorts or tank tops. Registration: Tickets will be available for purchase throughout the week from an MAA officer. Please send an email to board@maa.net if you have any questions or wish to arrange for ticket purchase. Purchasing your tickets before the Seafood Dinner will eliminate the headache of long lines and confusion. Tickets are refundable for the teams who make the final round. Final Hearing, Group Photo, and Gala Awards Banquet WHEN: SUNDAY, 7 APRIL 2019, 9:45AM / 1 PM What: The grand finale with the two best teams followed by the traditional group photo. After a brief break, the Final Gala Awards Banquet will take place. This is where the winning team and other award winners will be announced! When: Sunday, 7th April 2019. The Final Hearing will take place from 9:45 – 11:45 a.m. The Group Photo will be taken at 12.05 pm sharp!
