Short Mobility experience 2018 My name is Charlotte and I study Biochemistry and Biotechnology at KU Leuven. When I was in my 3rd Bachelor, I had to choose between an experience abroad or an internship for the upcoming Master. I really didn’t want to choose, and a summer school experience was the perfect solution for me! I went to Utrecht (The Netherlands) for 2 weeks to follow a summer school course about proteins. About 20 candidates participated, under guidance of 2 young and enthusiast professors. Each day, another topic was discussed; with lectures in the mornings and practicals in the afternoons. I really liked the summer school because it gives you the occasion to immerge yourself in a different language, culture and environment. This experience is absolutely great for networking and for making connections with people from all over the world for your future career! You meet with so many different people from various backgrounds and habits, and I think this is an amazing opportunity to expand your horizon. You go out together, live together on the same floor of the student residence (arranged by the guest university) and discover the city. You really make a bond in the short but intense period that you are together, and most likely remain in touch afterwards! Also, this experience abroad looks great on your resumé, which really helps in job interviews for internships and student jobs, as I have experienced. In addition, the professors were very open and friendly and told us to mail them with any question or for application letters in the future. I was in great luck of receiving a €500 grant from the KU Leuven Short Mobility Program. Also, I received 3 credits for the summer school, so I could incorporate this in my study program. I cannot say how grateful I am to have been able to do this course. This has been the most mind- opening and amazing adventure that I have experienced until now. I would do it all over again if I had the chance; and I would recommend everyone to go out there and get a taste of this yourself! - Charlotte, 2018
