Shaw & Co is a corporate finance advisory firm based on Queen Square, Bristol. The team contains experienced deal originators, accountants and bankers. We are the largest specialist advisory practice in the South West. Each year we are approached by numerous University students looking for internship opportunities to sample working in a corporate finance environment and build their CV. We welcome applications and whilst we are unable to offer formal graduate placements or professional training contracts, we do offer limited internship opportunities each year for second and final year students. Summer 2020 opportunity Build your work experience with us We are offering two places to students can demonstrate the requisite aptitude and attitude to work with us for a period of five weeks from Monday 6th July to Friday 7th August inclusive. You will need to be present at our Queen Square Bristol office on each working day between these dates from 9am to 5:30pm with an hour for lunch. You and your fellow intern will be working on a specific project. You will also be given exposure to the various types of work undertaken by our team through a programme of work shadowing.
The project Investor landscape research project During your time with us you will be asked to perform primary research on the fragmented mid-market debt and equity markets. You will be compiling a database of detailed lending and investment criteria of numerous counterparties. Research will be conducted by way of desktop research, direct request and conversations with lenders/investors. By supporting this project, you will: • Gain a deep understanding of the mid-market lending and investing landscape, • Be able to speak knowledgeably about the evolving and exciting space for SME finance with any future potential employer, • Leave behind a valuable asset for our SME clients that offers a living, searchable database of available funding options which will be continually developed following the initial project, • Receive support from our Chief Marketing Officer to create/optimise your LinkedIn profile.
Terms & remuneration Shaw & Co will pay £2,000 (Gross Pay) for the 5 weeks (24 working days) which will be subject to PAYE and National Insurance. You will be responsible for providing appropriate information for our payroll team to process such payments in full compliance with tax legislation. You must be able to prove you are eligible to work in the UK. You will be required to enter into our terms and conditions (available on request) that covers amongst other items, requirement for appropriate professional conduct, confidentiality and retention of IP created during your time with us.

Within your covering letter please explain why you feel you will benefit from our programme and why you are considering a career in corporate finance. You should also set out clearly that you are able to commit to each of the 24 days of the programme. Applications are requested no later than 31 March 2020. Successful candidates will be offered a one-hour interview with a member of our team between 6th and 24th April 2020. Places will be offered to successful candidates in the week commencing 27th April 2020.
