Dr. Norman Cohen explains in his book, Masking and Contact us: (813) 962-6338 Unmasking Ourselves: Interpreting Biblical Texts on Clothing & David Pearlman, President Identity, that “Esther’s royal garments gave her a facade of power david@kolamiboard.org and authority that was necessary as she presented herself publicly.” Rabbi Rachel Blatt This past year, since last Purim – the last large event held inside rabbiblatt@kolami.org Kol Ami – has been revealing in many ways. We have been forced Mitchell Weiss, Executive Director to learn new skills in communication, acquire our basic needs, execdirector@kolami.org like shopping for food, and tested our trust in others – figuring Jennifer Halls, Education Director out how to politely say that someone is standing too close or education@kolami.org that you feel uncomfortable in a situation. Kol Ami Brotherhood (cont’d) Sunday, February 7, 2021 at 9:00am on Zoom WORLD WIDE WRAP DAY "Connecting Jews Across the Generations" The World Wide Wrap unites men, women and children in prayer. The mitzvah of wrapping Tefillin is one of our most basic rituals. Yet for many of us it is removed from our daily lives; somehow a relic of the past rather than a vibrant and vital spiritual experience. Early in the month of February of each year, men and women in Conservative/Masorti communities around the world will gather together to pray and the mitzvah of wrapping tefillin will be shared, encouraged and taught. This event is for kids & adults. Congregants will be notified via e-mail with the Zoom link. The Federation of Jewish Men's Clubs welcomes the participation of the Women's League for Conservative Judaism in the World Wide Wrap this year. B’nai Mitzvah Beat The 1st Graders made pine cone bird By Jody Sampson-Nair feeders for Tu B’Shvat!!! Lexi Swere February 6, 2021 / 24 Shevat 5781 Lexi Swere is a student at Seven Springs Middle School and Kol Yeladim. A self-described positive, funny, and artistic person, Lexi loves skateboarding and making her own outfits. Lexi hopes one day to move to New York City and study fashion design. Unsurprisingly, Lexi’s idea of perfect hap- piness would be to spend time in that quintessential city of fash- ion, Paris. Keeping with the fashion theme, if she could meet one person in the world, Lexi says she would like to meet Harry Styles, whom she “admires for his talent and his bold fashion sense.” One thing Lexi wishes she could master is a “Hula Hoop Isola- tion.” For those who didn’t know there’s more to hula hoops than exercise; hula hoop isolations are “captivating moves that create illusions, like making the hoop seem like it’s floating in air while moving through space, defying gravity.” Lexi’s favorite Jewish holiday is Hanukkah, because, she says, according to her family tradition, “we go over to my Grandpa’s house every year…and I eat ten million latkes.” Mazal tov to Lexi on becoming a Bat Mitzvah!
