It all begins at calving where they are uniquely designed to lessen the workload. The slender shape of the Salers calf combined with the large pelvic area of the Salers female combine to create an easy-calving experience. Salers calves are very lively at birth and get up and suckling fast. These traits together are what we call calf survivability. Fertility is another profit-driving trait that Salers cows are blessed with. Which brings us to another important Salers trait – longevity. Salers cows just last longer. When you add up the traits of calf survivability, fertility and longevity, you get a cow that weans more pounds of live calf in a lifetime and puts more dollars in the bank than any other genetic component you can add to your cowherd. The value of having Salers genetics in your cowherd must be experienced to be appre- ciated. This Genetic Partners sale is one of the best opportunities you can find to put these great Salers-cross females into your cowherd. 6

Welcome to the 10th edition of the Genetic Partners Salers Influence Commercial Female Sale! It barely seems possible that it has been 10 years since we offered the first group of 75 bred heifers and 130 heifer calves in 2012. Now that we have some history to the sale, we can look back over the past 10 years and see that we have sold over 2300 head of bred heifers and over 1100 head of heifer calves in that time. But more important than the cattle market- ed has been the relationships built. It has been very satisfying to see commer- cial cattlemen from across the country who have a deep appreciation for Salers cattle connect, enjoy each other’s company and forge new friendships. The primary goal of this sale from the beginning has been to create a source of high-quality Salers-influenced females that will excel as producing cows in commercial herds and benefit their owners with the calf survivability, produc- tivity, longevity and fertility that are characteristic of the Salers-cross female. I believe that has been accomplished as these females have gone to work in commercial herds across the county over the past 10 years. Looking forward, I believe there is much reason for optimism in the cattle industry. As we move into the second half of 2021, I believe that tighter feeder calf numbers, solid demand for US beef both at home and abroad and turning the corner past the pandemic should work to positively influence feeder calf prices in the coming years. I believe that now is the time to add productive females to your cowherd to be ready to take advantage of the next price upturn in the cattle cycle. Thank you to both the buyers and consignors who have made the Genetic Part- ners sale a success over the past 10 years. And I would also like to give a special thank you to Napoleon Livestock Auction whose professional and friendly staff have made it a pleasure to do business here. Wishing everyone a blessed 2021!
